I keep going back to the BFR custom build page trying to talk myself out of it for quite some time now(about 6 months)
Me being able to resist it has come to an end i think.
i already have a BFR Bisley 7.5 inch in 475 Linebaugh, which I love. I shoot it quite a bit and love the caliber.
I want a companion for it; 5" with black micarta bisley grips in 475L; nothing exotic. Just a chest rig carry option that I would run iron sights. (My 7.5 " wears a red dot)
Now to the questions;
Has anyone built through the custom shop?
If so what was turn around time?
Is it the best way to go cost wise? Looks like my configuration is going to be 1690.00
I was going to reach out monday to BFR but I figure I d get opinions on here
Thanks D

Excellent questions I don't have answers to. We shall learn side by side.

Going to follow this. I have fallen in love with the cratridge and am trying to find a way towards the most cost effective way of procuring such.
My 7.5 inch will be my deer rifle. Need a smaller packable version.

I bought a 500JRH from the custom shop about 6 months ago. IMHO if the barrel length is really the only true custom option it is hardly worth the $1900 price tag.
We’re i to do it again, I would have bought a 7.5” version for about $1k and sent it off for a barrel chop and a Huntington trip mod and would still have been ahead cost wise.
The wait time when I ordered in June of 2019 was about 12 weeks.

I ordered my .475 Linebaugh Bisley BFR from the custom shop at this time last tear. They added a 6"barrel, dehorned and polished all edges, did a nice trigger job, added perfectly fit micarta grips, and engraved- not toll marked-the caliber, etc. It took about 8 weeks to get it to my FFL. It is as nice as I had prayed it would be. The cost was just a bit over $1,700.at that time. When ordering the Gentleman at Magnum research told me the custom shop was run by one man who takes his trade so seriously that you can describe your revolver to him 2 years later and he can tell you how he built that particular revolver. I cannot overstate how well this revolver shoots. It is as smooth as a newborns backside. Good Luck with your order..

I went the gunsmith route. I had Jim Stroh chop the barrel, add his front sight, and do a trigger job - it is the best trigger that I have ever squeezed - absolutely unbelievable. Then I sent it to JRH and had his grip frame modification done. JRF even asked "who did the trigger work?" It is a pleasure to shoot - even the rip snorting loads. I have a pic somewhere... ...here's the pic

Late to the game but I have four guns now that have been through the custom shop. My first was a 475 with 4 5/8 barrel. Needless to say I was impressed. What I wanted and received was a gun with very tight tolerances that shoots very well. Worth the extra to me. 4-6 weeks on all of them.

Resistance is futile.
I don't really have an answer for you. I bought a measly 5" 44 mag used for $500 (unused in fact by all evidence).
I sent it to Jack Huntington for an action/trigger job, upgraded the rear sight, and it is quite the sweetheart of a shooter for a modest outlay.
Hard to go wrong with any BFR.

What I wanted and received was a gun with very tight tolerances that shoots very well. Worth the extra to me. 4-6 weeks on all of them. That's a nice collection of BFRs. We need details if you don't mind. My first BFR is the 5.5 barrel 500 JRH. That was a standard production model. Very good shooter. Very accurate. Really like the BFR version of the Bisley grip frame. I had little interest in the BFR's before they came out with this grip. I enjoyed shooting this gun so much it lead to the next purchase, a custom shop 475 Linebaugh with a 4 5/8 barrel. Great shooter. Have not shot my Freedom arms 475 much since this gun arrived. Not to long after that the Precision Center announced that they were in the 500 Linebaugh business. Had to have one in the BFR. I have a custom ruger in 500 Linebaugh that no longer gets shot much after this purchase. I also ordered another JRH 500 at the same time as the Linebaugh order. This time with a 4 5/8 barrel (my favorite barrel length in case you have not noticed ). Both guns showed up at the same time. As it turned out I got the very first production 500 Linebaugh. A very special gun indeed. It and the new 500 JRH have consecutive serial numbers also. Very cool. Last purchase from the Precision Center was the 454 with 4 5/8 barrel with porting. Again, after this purchase my Freedom arms and rugers in 454 do not see much action. I really enjoy these guns. The guy who builds them (Brett Pikula) is a good guy who takes a lot of pride in what he does. It shows. These are not show pieces. They are great shooting single actions made to be precise, accurate and reliable for many years of service. That is what I wanted and got. I have many single actions to choose from but these guns are in front of the safe. I can't wait to get shooting again. I have been out of action for almost a year due to family losses and recent neck surgery. Was just released yesterday from neck brace that I have been wearing for two months. I can at least hold and dry fire them now....
