OK, it's clearly stupid but I just can't get the question out of my head. Obviously the 8 shot .357 is not as strong as the old 6 shot Redhawk was but is it stronger than a GP-100 6 shooter? Years ago I had a 6 shot .357 Redhawk and foolishly sold it so this 8 shooter gets my attention, but does it offer me added strength over my GP-100? I'm not a hot rod loader by any stretch and doubt I've ever stressed the GP with my efforts but it's a mental comfort factor thing that just gets into my head.

Look at one potential fail point, the barrel tenon. The Redhawk frame has a massive barrel socket, and the wall of the barrel tenon is much thicker. David Bradshaw

And the 180 gr XTP can be seated long, as in the BH. Not likely in a GP or L-frame or..

Thank you Sir! Makes absolute sense and that's what I needed. I was was very excited when they brought the 357 back into the Redhawk line but It just bugged me that they weakened it with an 8 shot cylinder.

Are the new Redhawk cylinders the same length as the 6 shot versions? I recall some folks rechambering the 6 shot cylinder to 360 Dan Wesson. I’ve been wondering if this could be done with the new ones

If you are interested in the 8 shot Redhawk check out the Super GP100. It benefits from the dual spring action design.

There is a short cylinder 8 shot DA 9mm Ruger out there! Michael Bane's Shooting Gallery on the Outdoor Channel last week had details with pictures.

Now that Ruger has picked up two revolver shooters for their team they have been making strides to put out new models. I was very happy to see them producing the 8 shot .357 and 9mm models.

I was excited about the Super GP, hopefully they come out with a more traditional version.

I was excited about the Super GP, hopefully they come out with a more traditional version. I'd guess that we will eventually see them in .44 and .45 with a 4.25" barrel. Just seems natural to me.
