Has anyone seen one or had one built?
I've lost count of how many Marlin lever guns I've bought/sold/traded over the years, but am quite pleased with the Miroku built Winchester 1886 Extra Light I got from a LGS for a nice price before they closed down on us.
Mods considered: slightly shorter bbl, extended magazine, pistol grip replacement stock with a recoil reducing shotgun style recoil pad (straight stock makes my wrist unhappy).
Of course the rebounding hammer feature has to go (who thought up that mess?).
Plenty of folks mod Marlins as a regular part of their business but not so many say much about Winchester.
Merry Christmas to all!

The Marlins are easy to work on and parts are easy to find, I have never messed much with an 86 or a 92,But my guess is that it a bunch harder and things like mag extensions might need to be built. It can be done for sure , all it takes is Money , ! I have had Marlin 45/70s over the years, at least 4, of them, But after shooting a bunch of just under max loads a year or two ago , it was a month before i could raise my Right arm again. So i sold the last one. I sure wish somebody other than big horn armory would Build a good lever in .454 Casull ! The Big horn is insanely expensive, A 300 grain bullet from a 20" Tube traveling at 1800 with 7 or 8 more in the mag tube, is plenty of power on this continent, and if said carbine had a good pad, i would probably be able to shoot 50 rounds with little or no recovery time needed ! ...tj

Check out the Chiappa/Taylors Ferry website. They have done several variations of the model 86 as a guide gun. Same price point but a truer Italian copy of the original.

My '86 Browning SRC fits about all of the needs of a guide gun for me.

I like the full size Marlin 95, it's a great rifle.

Check out the Chiappa Kodiak and Taylor’s Ridgerunner. I think they are same gun under different names. Available in matte blue and chrome plate. The Marlins are plenty strong, but the Japanese and Italian ‘86s are stronger. m.youtube.com/watch?v=Hm2bK-E2XkQ
