I have heard of 2 GP100s with cracked forcing cones firing only Skeeter type loads, ie, 250/7.5 Unique. The Keith load would not work well in the GP 100 44 Spl.
I carry the 69 with a 240-ish penta hp bullet from Dick under a healthy dose of Blue Dot in 44 Special cases. Not a 44 magnum, but a strong enough 44 Spl for decent personal defense or blacktail deer, should I ever get off my butt again.

Took my Alaskan 480 and the M69 to the indoor range yesterday to meet co-workers and retirees. Feed for the Alaskan was 275gr Speer and CFE-P, a break-in load, lite, carry load,etc.. Oddly, the ammo taken for the M69 was heavier ! The 300gr Missouri Hammer on 2400, it's "bear load".

I am so glad I read this. Was seriously considering the GP 100 for heavy loads. After all it's a Ruger. Going to get the S&W instead.

The 69 is on my list for the new year.
I'd rather like to see a 41mag version come out soon..

The 69 is a fine revolver. For the money, it’s in another class compared to the GP 44 special.
I’d be interested if anyone with a Clements GP 44 special conversion could measure their forcing cone thickness and protrusion out of the frame to see if it’s similar to the factory piece. I remember reading that Clements suggested his conversion could take Keith loads (1200 fps with Keith SWC) regularly.

10MM 3" GP is a reasonable and real (read available now) 6 shot snorter. And for the woods driven a 4.25" Match Champion.

For those with or wanting the GP44, a suggestion. Pressure is one thing, bullet shape another. Maybe avoid the bullets with shoulders. Just sayin'.

Now that Colt is releasing the Python, mine will probably go on the auction block.

Groo I like the way you think. Short 44s are handy, and everpresent.
