***** Clean work. From inception, the Redhawk hammer spur had a look of expedience. Well positioned and well checkered, the flat spur nevertheless amplifies brutishness of Bill Ruger’s double action sledgehammer. Custom spur shares arc and low placement of the big frame Dan Wesson. Low spur something to be aware of, shooting gloved in the North Country. Aesthetic to be sure, looks like it was born on the gun. David Bradshaw

I just picked up a Ruger Super Redhawk today... I'd love to find an aftermarket hammer like this one shown above for it.

If you can’t cut and weld what you want……weld on a piece of cold rolled steel and cut away everything you don’t like. Sounds stupid I know. But it works. Just don’t be in a rush. If you loose the train orchard thought …….leave it a while. Then look at it again …….maybe you don’t see it. Try again. Just keep it balanced. Don’t let it hog the show.
And remember……..form FOLLOWS function. At least in my world.

I see this is an old thread but I really like that Redhawk hammmer. One of my Redhawks could benefit from that hammer.

David Bradshaw Mr, Bradshaw, could you please elaborate on what you meant when you said to be aware of the low spur when shooting gloved in the North Country? Also, whereabouts in the North Country are you, if I may ask? Finally, do you have Mr. Horvath’s contact info so that I may reach out about such a hammer spur? Many thanks and all the best.

wyomingnimrod.... upon single action cocking, it’s easy to lay a glove over a hammer spur which is close to the “double action hump” or recoil shoulder at the top of the backstrap. Catching spur on web of glove. Upon squeeze, hammer fails to drop, or hammer falls as revolver shifts off target. Also, a spur which pinches leather prevents full cock.
To effect a fast draw infold weather, my technique is to snatch the glove with the support hand as the gun hand sweeps to draw. When hunting or moving with gun drawn and held in gloved hand, the shooter must have supple gloves appropriate to the task, and have practiced gloved shooting. Those who say they “never shoot with a gloved hand,” just haven’t been where we’re talking about. David Bradshaw

A little off the beaten path but... My personal RH hammer fix +1 On every one of my DA revolvers I used in competition I lopped off the spur. The only reason I keep them on a DA/SA revolver is for increased mass on the down stroke hopefully for better ignition should I go afield with it. I'd rather lose a match than a chance at an animal. My 686+ has taken down a lot of bowling pins and steel plates :-)
