Does having them stabilized warrant the higher cost? The ones I bought from Jantz were $30-40 for pieces large enough to do Bisley grips.

May not have been bighorn but it was some kind of rams horn. Pretty sure it was in the $30-40 range. Don’t think I’d have paid more.

Jantz is selling merino. Dall or big horn will command a big premium.

Jantz only sells Merino rams horn, beautiful but easily found. and stabilization would probably only add $20 to the cost of the blanks.
if you've ever wanted Bighorn grips i strongly suggest buying a set of these blanks and sending them off to a grip maker.

That's about right price wise...
Rob will get $1K for a set finished and Zane's are getting close to that.
And...if that seems spendy don't even look at really nice musk ox!

While we are on horn for grips. Reeder has a Cape buffalo ,full shoulder mount that he is selling for 1k or so. The African taxidermist sent him the wrong buffalo losing his. Don’t know how many grip sets or even ifs it’s cost effective to chop it up!

About what could one anticipate the cost of getting a set of those grips finished to be?

would depend on the maker. usually when I work with customer supplied materials like wood or certain kinds of horn/antler I charge $125-$150 plus shipping.

That sux,.....but I had a similar thing happen with my bison, taxidermist died and after two years of trying to run it down I gave up. Another taxidermy outfit called and said they had it and wanted my address to ship, when it arrived it was obviously not mine. Trapr

I saw some on a knife once and it looked pretty similar to water buffalo horn. just a hair darker.
