Have an older friend that told me last night that he was gonna trade in his kinda still new C.A. Boomer 44spec.. He said the last 2 trips to the range left him with a painful wrist for days. He has components here and we load for it. Light loads, a 185gr DEWC on 6, some on 7 grs of Unique. So I asked him what was on his wish list. He said he'd rented, tried a few things at the range and was intrigued oddly by the Kel-Tec Sub-2000 in 40 cal that uses Glock mags. Asked if I knew of them. Laughed and told them I have one and 2 couple 22rd mags besides. Sooo...maybe a trade. His Boomer has a Crimson Trace grip, his components would just stay here. Guess I'll hand it off with the 3 mags filled up. Awaiting word. Always thought my Ole Bulldog could use a new, younger friend. Mine getting a bit loose, an understudy in the wings a good idea ?

That's the one with no front sight???
while I can appreciate the dedicated carry gun, I always still preferred at least a front sight

Groo here I have one too... My gun Smith and I are researching If a shotgun bead could be used in the front of the groove on top of the frame .. This would give you a reference up and down,, side to side is ok looking down the groove..... Ps as few people use sights at defensive distances, we are bred to look at the problem...... No sights is not bad.. Anyone out there with a bulldog 3 in clasic please put a streight edge on the front sight and the top of the back and give the measurments at the groove. I need how high a bead needs to be at the front of the groove.

I think the Crimson Trace eliminates any need for a sight. I'd call it a "good trade".

Yes, the Boomer has no front sight, just the grooved top strap. This one has a set of Crimson Trace grips. This gun isn't for standing at a public square range and shooting little groups on a well lighted piece of paper. Our friends, the Quinns have a nice video review on it.

Groo, not quite understanding your question. Want a front height measurement ? I have a 3" S.S. Early '80's. Not sure if the top straps exactly the same with the Boomer. It's not yet here. Tues or Wed maybe.

Groo here The line of sight is an angle in relation to the barrel.. A streight edge on top if the front sight and back sight [groove] will allow a measurement at the front of frame [in the groove] and mantain angle..

OK, got home last eve from a few days in the hills. When I wake up a bit and make it downstairs I;ll see if I can find a proper straight edge. I understand..you want a measurement from barrel to straight edge, at the front sight . With the straight edge in the groove, not on the top of the top strap ? The barrels are tapered, one a 3", the Boomer shorter. Soo.. Will measure the 3" Classic Bulldog that's in my pocket right now.

Since you already have the crimson trace on it, why don't you just zero it at whatever range you want and then install a front sight that zeroes to the dot? Much more reliable in my opinion.
There will be a lot of parallax so using the same range is critical.
