I keep coming back to this. If that deer were standing it'd be the December page on a calendar.

I had a 338 Federal built on a mauser action. My riflesmith said he had a fast twist 338 barrel that wouldn't shoot under half inch and wasn't any good for competition. I can have it for free! I think the total job with donor rifle cost me 500 bucks! I am shooting a 240 grain cast flat nose gas checked at 1900 fps and getting just under 2 MOA out to 250 yards. 5 large hogs down and haven't recovered a bullet yet. That is a bruiser of a buck!! If I saw that buck I would have "the fever" so bad I might not be able to shoot him!

@x101airbore
LOL! I thought I was immune to "Buck Fever" but my heart started thumbing like crazy! Had to take a few slow breaths and calm down!

I have a Browning Low Wall in 338 Federal. If the weather cooperates I'll try it out with 210 grain Scirocco II's tomorrow.
Cast bullets or jacketed bullets under 225 are where the Fed finds it's place in the world, and it's a great deer round at typical hunting ranges.
