.45AR is a lot of fun to load 'and shoot'.

+1 on the AR excitement... Did I say I hate moon clips? Owned quite a few 25s and 625s through the years. Even had a coffee can of AR brass one time. Never loaded a round of AR until November 2019. Picked up shell holder, a conversion for a Dillon 550, and some Starline brass. Currently at 5.0 grains of Unique with a Zero swaged 200 grain SWC.

YOU GUYS LOADING FOR PAPER PUNCHING, FIELD USE OR WHAT? I HAVE SOME AR LOADS, AND SHOTSHELLS USING THE SPEER 45 COLT CAPSULES, THAT MAKE MY 1955 AN EXCELLENT FIELD GUN FOR BACK UP, SELF DEFENSE, FINISHERS, RATTLERS, AND OPPORTUNITY.

That load I pictured the 225SWC will be a general purpose carry load, have to shoot it first. Gun headed out for a new front sight, and then we will get down to serious load development.
Years ago I had a 625 and it was the most accurate revolver I ever owned, I would like to get close to what that gun would do. I'm with Axehandle, at this point in time, moonclips are a pain to load, the demooner helps with the unloading.

Hi... I have loaded .45AutoRim for many years for my 1917 revolver. I got bored with the full moon clips real quick. I carry that revolver a lot when I am hiking in Southcentral Pennsylvania... upstate where there are more numerous bears I carry heavier caliber revolvers.

That 25-2 is at the gunsmiths' having a new front ramp of proper height being pinned in. Anticipation rising. I do a lot of walking in the surrounding countryside and I've seen some mammoth "dog" prints in mine after backtracking on a dead end dirt road. We had wolves in here a few years ago until they decimated the local moose population then they moved on. To paraphrase Clint Smith this old Smith is comforting to have along.

Threads like this one give me a warm feeling. My "love affair" with the .45 ACP/.45 Auto Rim, goes back a long ways. My current favorite revolver for this load is my 625-8 JM Special. It is a WONDERFUL piece. It makes a fine piece for "On the Range and in the Field", that is for sure. My most used load is the H&G #68 (the MP version which is actually a #69 - a flat base #68) ahead of 4.0 grs. of Bullseye or equivalent. That combination works really well as an edible small game load and I have taken many a cottontail or snowshoe rabbit with. A head shot or a shot "through the slats" offers an instant kill with almost no meat loss. My family thought that Michigan Upper Peninsula showshoe rabbits the absolute best wild meat available.
Heavier loads with this bullet also work extremely well. You can load to a chronographed 1000 fps. That makes a fine defense load, also. I also use heavier bullets, when called for. The Lee 230 gr. TC bullet ahead of 5.0 grs. of Bullseye gives a load in the power level of Hardball with a much better shaped bullet for better terminal effect.
The Lyman 452424 (250 gr. Keith SWC) can be safely driven to 900 fps. This makes a dandy load for deer and hogs at reasonable ranges.
To the OP, congratulations on the outstanding choice you have made with that fine revolver and load!
As a possible matter of interest, I use the Auto Rim cartridges a good bit, but also use lots of .45 ACP's. I use the RIMZ clips for range use since I can load these polymer full moon clips easily without tools. I use the steel full moon clips (requires tools to load and unload the steel clips) when rugged field use is needed. It is no problem using the steel clips when proper tools are employed.

I see the utility of the 45 ACP in steel moon clips for competition and carry but for a range trip to pop some caps I am liking the AR brass. I don't make my ACP or AR 625 loads very peppy. My 45 loads are generally the same thing I run in my highly tuned paper punchers. I'll pick up the 44 mag 629 for hotter stuff. That said when I leave the range if the 45 is my carry gun for the day it gets moon clipped 45 ACP that DOE NOT go in my paper punchers.

I need a source for RIMZ, used when I had the 625 but couldn't find them at Midway or Brownells? Did I miss them?
