When I posted about the JT/SS gun John finished for me I mentioned that there were a couple other guns that came as well. This is one of those other two guns. It too had been down in Jasper for some time and when John shared his diagnosis I told him not to worry about this gun but to actually keep it so his son could do the work on it once he got more comfortable working on revolvers. Isaac, his son, is a fine gunsmith himself and has been working with John for some time but he mainly focused on rifle work. Unknown to me is that John had been working on this gun in the recent past and that it too was nearly complete so it was a total surprise when he sent me pictures of the gun and said it was coming home as well. The wood on the gun was piece of walnut that a forum member who lost his house in last years Paradise CA fire had found and sold to Tim Prince, aka Princeout. When Steve lost his house, Tim was kind enough to sell a number of items to me and he donated the proceeds to Steve to help with rebuilding. I sent this piece of wood down to John and told him to put in the box with the gun and the rest of the parts for Isaac to work on later but he fit the wood to the gun as a surprise.
The gun started out as a short barrel old model Blackhawk in 45 Colt. Along with the gun I sent a Stroh front sight, Bowen rear sight, brass two piece Powers grip frame and the requisite Clements bisley spurred hammer. John fit all these parts as well as the wood from Tim/Steve along with a second cylinder in 45 ACP. He then case colored the main frame and hammer in house. The three actions screws and even the ERH screw are regulated on this gun as well. This will be another "heirloom" gun for me and my family and will always remind me of the joy and pleasure John has provided me over the years with both his work but more importantly, his friendship.
