tempted but just picked up a tricolor lightweight flat gate from an estate auction [ on the way, not here yet ] but maybe I should get the wrangler to compare ? how's that for a rationalization / justification?? Hey that's as good a reason as any. Go for it.

I handled one at LGS. It felt good in my hand. I think it fills that niche of a bargain, light weight using rim fire. Ruger will probably sell a million of them. I hope they do......

^ I got one Zane.
Its an xr3-red, BUT... the discerning Ruger SA man will notice any type of Ruger xr3-red grip set ever made in the past goes on the Wrangler sloppily. For the non-discerning, it wont be a big deal.
Height of the profile seems to be about 3/16 greater than past xr3-reds also.
Good news: it has an integral, cast in pin.... pin placement inconsistency wont be a terrible problem on Wranglers.
They are neat in general.

cable; a nice, first year (of the 3 yr run) for the Lightweights. They started in 1956 with serial number 200000. Yours is a 4 digit gun!

I think it would be fun to see how light you could make one.
Flute the heck out of the barrel or turn it down to minimum.
Machine the cylinder like an LCR.
Lighting holes in the hammer, flute the back side of the trigger.
Scallop the frame.
Fresh ceracote to cover it all.

I've been thinking... dangerous...
Instead of turning the barrel down or fluiting it, how about aluminum barrel with a Redmans rifled steel liner!
Lee are you listening... next tutorial project maybe???

My LGS bought 17 from his salesman to clean out his allotment. I have bought 3 in the past and will probably get a few more from this group...gifts, rewards, hunt guide tips. They really are a slick little pistol for $189 (my LGS).
