I've finalized the dimensions for the .251 TCR and am making brass. Using new Starline .22 Hornet brass as the donor cartridge. Case length is 1.00", with an outside diameter of .279". Max overall length will be 1.35". Shown with a .25 ACP and a .38 Special for size comparison. The bullet shown is a 90gr. soft-point, but I don't think there's any way a 1:16 rifling twist will stabilize that. Actual loads will range from 35-60gr. The rifling might stabilize a 60gr. bullet; we'll see. I've also decided to go with a significantly stouter platform than I originally planned, an Uberti 1873. I'm forging into unknown territory with these loads, so they'll be fired from a gun that there's no way they'll blow up. Might separate a casehead if I go a little nuts, but I won't break the gun.

I like the dimensions. That should make a good kit gun cartridge for woods walking where bigger threats off the list. A reloadable but upgraded 22mag.. Badgers, coyotes, chucks and such beware.

Its ok. Took your numbers to the basement and pulled out a Federal 50gr 22mag and a caliper and like what I saw.

So, here is the first test load. It's a swaged 38gr. LSWC over 1.5gr. iof Unique. This is in the range of .25 ACP loads, so it's not going to break anything. The case looks like it will gold about 2.0 gr. of Unique. I'll also be trying some loads with red Dot and Power Pistol. Hopefully I'll have a chronograph early next month.

Things are indeed moving forward, thanks in no small part to Magnumwheelman! The chronograph is in-hand and tested, the barrel liner has arrived (thank you!) and the donor gun is ready to be adapted to my evil whims... The donor gun is an Uberti Percussion 1873 I picked up for a song. I'll be reaming the bore to .451 and turning the barrel-liner down to .450 or so. Also have to adapt the breech for centerfire, but that on't be too much trouble. After that is ready I'll turn the new cylinder from 4140, fit and time it then line-bore it and ream the chambers. Going to need a special drill bit for line-boring the cylinder but that should be in hand soon. Since there will be several inches of surplus barrel liner I may make a single-shot pistol for test purposes with the extra. I also now have two flavors of ammunition to test- the 38gr. LSWC and a 31gr. LHP. Interesting times coming!

Have the cylinder for the test-gun line-bored and chambered. Now I just need to sort out the breech and firing-pin and she'll be ready to shoot! I have a new load to test too- a high-powered load using a 35gr. GDHP. I'm getting impatient!

Congratulations Mr.Pearce, it's a gun! While it needs considerable work in the finish department the gun is complete and shoots! Chronographed two loads: 38gr. LSWC 865fps 63 ft./lbs 35gr. GDHP 870fps 59 ft./lbs. The fact that these loads came in precisely in the expected range I attribute to the existence and benevolence of God. I haven't tried any hot loads yet, but since these two loads used about 1/2 of the case capacity I'm optimistic.
