Is the shield mark on the back of the cylinder too?

Perry and Mr. Taffin are right. Early 500 Linebaughs were often marked 500 Magnum. I had a blued gun like yours from Bowen a few years back. The cylinder on it was shorter than my later 500's.

A few differences that I know of between early and late 500's. As was mentioned before, early ones marked 500 magnum, later ones 500 linebaugh. later guns had cylinder cut for recessed case heads. Early guns had bolt block retained by hex screw, later ones used standard screw. also looks like yours was made when he was using ruger basepins.

I have several Bowen customs. All have the shield stamped on the rear of the cylinder, none have the mark as this one does. But that doesn't mean Hamilton did not build it. As Mr. Taffin says, Ask Hamilton.

Yes, rear of the cylinder is also marked with a sheild. Please overlook the filth... I haven't had a chance to clean it.

Stories make pictures better Blazenet. From who? How much? Enquiring minds want to know! Of all places I found it at Cabelas in Hamburg,Pa., I make a trip to Cabelas about 3 times a year most times I end up just looking at the over priced guns. Every once and a while I do find a good deal or two, this was one of the times that I a found a exceptional deal and I do mean a exceptional deal. They had it on the books as a NM Super Redhawk, so I pretty sure they had no idea what they had....

I too came across a deal from a Cabelas in WA on a like new Premier Grade FA 454 w/ 45 colt cylinder. Got it for the goin price of a field grade gun only. They to discounted it 50 bucks which paid for the shipping here to AK.
