Yesterday I planned to go deer hunting so I ran out to the range to check my bisley 45 on my way out of town. I spray painted 5 plates & set up at 50 to shoot off of my knees at 50 yds. I ran the 6" plates twice using my load of 18.5 grs of 2400 & the 260 Keith & my new 2dogs front sight that's working so well. It's like having new eyes.
Then I took off a short distance from town where I had been seeing several deer before the season opened last Thursday. Climbing up a steep mountain road, if you want to call it a road I was eye balling some good looking brush pockets so I stopped & walked back a ways with a sling shot & fired 4 shots down into the brush & out comes a doe & a fawn. I shot one more rock down into the brush & out comes a small buck trailing the doe & fawn, I run for the 4 wheeler because he's out of range for the iron sighted 45. I've got the scoped 44 BFR on the 4 wheeler & the buck starts chasing after the doe & fawn but he's way behind.
I knelt down with the 44 braced over the seat expecting him to come on around the hill following them but he never did, he must have held up or turned back, either way he never made our appointment. I ranged the spot where he would have came around the hill & Mr. Bushnell told me 110 yds, he would have been in big trouble.
On hour later I'm stashed in some heavy brush on the edge of a grain field & just before dark I decided to work my way back across the mountain. Just as I touched the starter on the 4 wheeler a buck whirled right beside me, not 30 yds! Just 30 more seconds & I would have had him right in front of me, yikes! I walked over there & a nice game trail was right through that heavy brush, so close & just maybe a minute more & I'd have had him right in my lap.
Here's 2 50 yds groups shots with the BFR yesterday, it's scoped & is a great shooter. I've just barely started shooting it so I really don't know what it's capable of yet but it's very well made with a great trigger, I'm happy.
