I have been on the lookout for a 4" n frame S&W for a while now. I check different online sites pretty regular. I stumbled up on a listing for a Smith & Wesson 24, 44 Special with a 4" barrel. I messaged the seller and asked his location. He was an hour south of me, I thought dang why couldn't he had been in El Paso rather than Houston. I keep telling myself no more. I contacted the seller and set a time and place to meet up. I was not disappointed and became the new owner. I remember reading Skeeter Skelton's write up in Shooting Times when S&W released the 24-3 in 4" and 6 1/2, at that time I was an E-2 in the USAF. A long time ago. I wish I could post photos but I am working off a iPad. Got to go and load some 44 specials, as I shot up what I had on hand. Glen

Congratulations. Try 8.0 grains of Power Pistol and a 240 swc with a standard primer. I own seveeral Specials and they all like this load. The load was developed by Brian Pearce. It generates 950-975fps out of a 4" gun and only produces 17K PSI pressure. A couple of my 44 Specials shoot one hole groups of 5 rounds at 50 ft offhand.

That is the load I was shooting today. I recently bought a 6 cavity MP mould in that style, time to heat the pot.

Nice, congrats.
I came upon a Smith & Wesson 21-4 Thunder Ranch .44 Special at the LGS the other day. Hate the gold trim but love the chambering. The asking price was under $700. If I hadn't just bought an 1873 Carbine clone it probably would have come home with me.

Those are really nice, I purchased one when they were issued back in the 1980's.I ended up having to sell it while going through a divorce, I have regretted it ever since. Mine was a 4" with Smith & Wesson smooth finger groove grips. Enjoy, they are great revolvers.
