A guy at work wants to sell me one of these. I haven’t seen it yet, so I don’t know the condition. He said somebody tried to polish it. I can probably get it cheap. Maybe $500 or less. I know nothing about colt da revolvers. Anyone have any info or tips? I will look at the general condition and the condition of the bore. Do you check the lockup like a smith and wesson? Thanks in advance for any info!

Well, I looked it over. There is no blueing left. It looks like someone took steel wool or sandpaper to it. The markings on the side are visible, barely. There are no visible markings on the top of the barrel. From the examples I looked at on gunbroker, there should be two lines of print. The colt on the side is visible but worn. The grips look original and aren’t in bad shape. It seems to be timed correctly and locks up tight. The barrel was a little dirty, but I didn’t see any pitting, and the rifling looked good. I told him I wasn’t really interested. He said I could get it for $375. I said I would think about it. It didn’t really trip my trigger. Maybe I will offer him $300 on tuesday.

For me , on a gun like that , timing and lockup is primary, cosmetics are a distant second. I don't look for or expect great accuracy , they are primarily combat guns. Huge throats , shallow rifling. A combination not everyone finds appealing. They look "right " trail worn and make great projects . They are getting fewer and farther between. I doubt you will find one cheaper.

Most guns will shoot fine IF you feed them the right things..... these included.
