I’ve seen some beautiful sa posted here with s&w barrels. How involved is fitting one to old model Ruger? Wondering if threads match, and the crane lock ,I guess, has to be machined off the bottom of barrel!

The threads don't match so the threaded portion along with crane lock are machined off. Start with as long a barrel as you can so you have plenty to work with.

Unless... you want a gun with a 4 5/8" barrel. Then it's best to start with a 5 1/2" S&W barrel. Has to do with the screw that holds the ERH on and the barrel thickness. Not a prob on smaller calibers. BTW....will you please get that hammer case colored?? Hurts mah eyes.....!

The good ones also have work done on the main frame, reshaping and sometimes welding to make a better transition to the barrel.

Thank you! The hunt is on! What caliber are you looking for? Tim .41 cal . I’ve been getting the parts together . So far I have a beautiful 3 screw 357mag, old army steel gripframe ,wide trigger and fancy walnut panels . Also a Aggie front sight. I have a Bowen rear sight along with a clements Bisley spur hammer and belt mountain #5 Bowen style base pin on order. Also need a steel erh. So when done it’ll be a four inch 41 special.

Sounds like this 4" 41 Special OM 357 conversion with a model 57 barrel by Andy. It is the same gun as in my avatar but I swap grip frames and grips back and forth.

I see you have a nail head basepin. Think the bm #5 will clear and be able to be removed? Also if the parts show up before the barrel ,I’ll be satisfied with a straight taper barrel.

Not sure if a #5 bp would allow the cylinder to come out or not. Andy I stalked the nail headed pin when I gave him free rein on the build.
