A question for someone who has one of the Ruger 45 Colt Bisley Hunter's - do these revolvers have longer than standard ejector rod housings & ejector rods (longer than those on the regular 5 1/2 in guns)? Thanks.

It is just what it is called, a HUNTER! Like David and Snyd said, the sweet thing about the HUNTER, and I prefer the Bisley grip, is that ability to hunt them precious 30 minutes of pre sunup, and post sunup in that low light when open sight are hard to distinguish in heavy hardwoods and deep forest ravines. But for mid day, all it takes is a quarter, key, whatever and remove the scope for daylight and open sights, and return it when needed knowing it is still zero'd to hunt. Then loke Snyd said, if it ever had a problem in tough terrain and the scope got compromised, the hunt goes on knowing the open sights are always ready! I like the Barranti Eastern Hunter for carry duty, and with the heavy scope rib with the scope weight over top of the the barrel, helps it keep my 340's and 250's hitting the same place out to 50 yards, with excellent accuracy from my Pre-cleanup version, ny other Bisleys shoot these two loads just as good, but with almost 3" difference in elevation at 50 yards, but the HUNTER keeps them in the same zip code,,, I agree with Snyd after having both the SBBH and 6 and 7 1/2 inch FA 83's in 454, I found myself hunting more with this rig, the 454 might be better for bear or dangerous game protection, but it is marginal at best, when you feed the old 45 Colt the right heavy lead diet! It loves that 340 grn. WFL just as much as the lighter game 250 grn. That made this my favorite hunting revolver very convenient, accurate, and with plenty of penetration! Today not wanting to risk gimped game with my eyes getting worse I seldom hunt big game with open sights, I find myself more often going for the more convenient to pack 5 1/2" Bisley, in my baby hunter version, but I don't have the assurance if anything happens to the sight to fall back on, but make no mistake it's a 45 Colt when I do.

Wildcatter, what brand is the reflex mount that the Burris is mounted to on your 5.5” and do you like it?

I don’t want to speak for wildcatter, but it looks like a jack weigand mount. I have one on my .41 mag bisley with a vortex venom on top, and I really like mine. It is called a mini mount and no drilling and tapping is needed.

What wheelgun said JCW64, I have one on a single six as well, I like it for the Red Dot, but on a 41 mag and up I would caution against mounting much weight on one, such as a scope. With just one screw the way it is designed it works great, but recoil with the momentum of weight would have me worried. For the past couple seasons it has held up well for me.

As a sidenote, Lipsey's has not received any of these guns yet.
Will keep everyone interested informed and hope others do the same.

Weigand's website says no more than 3.5 oz for the optic. It is a shame they didn't mill it to engage the step at the back of the frame like they do with their larger mounts. That would have transferred nearly all of the loading to that interface vs. the single screw in the top. Not to hijack the thread further but there are also a couple of different mounts specifically for the mini red dot sights that replace the rear sight on many handguns. The advantage to those is it does not require the additional rail adapter and allows the sight to be mounted a bit lower.

Not to hijack the thread further but there are also a couple of different mounts specifically for the mini red dot sights that replace the rear sight on many handguns. The advantage to those is it does not require the additional rail adapter and allows the sight to be mounted a bit lower. It is machined to not only go around the rear of the sight cavity, it is also machined quite well to fit the sight cavity, making it stronger than most other mounts for this purpose, but also better suited for heavier recoiling revolvers like the shory barreled Blackhawk in 45 Colt with loads like my 340 grain at 1500 fps, or the 265 SWC I load @ 1300+ fps, and do it securely. The reason for the lighter weight is not movement forward, it is what I spoke about with momentum under recoil, pulling the scope mount screw loose as the revolver heavily recoils upward throwing that weight up and back that is being held by a single screw! The other mounts don't rely just on on screw to hold them in place, they either use hidius clamps, or other screw's, some needing holes drilled and tapped, or inserts that fasten to front sight receivers such as the GP-100 mount I displayed. I chose the mini mount for it's clean compact design, and for big game with a revolver, the red dot for me just makes it a smaller lighter more compact hunter. But the best thing about the No-Drill Mini Mount is they managed to make a mount for this purpose not only reliable, but quite compact. Then for those wanting much larger optics on any revolver including heavy recoiling revolvers the other mount systems. Besides, this Mini does not realy have the area to get two rings spread to hold heavier scopes and span turrets, it was designed mainly to complement a revolver with a reflex sight without using the massive mounts designed for scopes and they did it very well. I doubt many would use this tine mount to cramp rings on for heavier scopes, most would opt for the full size mounts.
