Sounds like you are looking for a general utility kind of packing handgun. In your original post you were split between a 3" Sp-101 or a 5 1/2" Bisley. Ooops, you left out the real winner. The 4" SP-101 in 327. The older 3" has almost useable , windage adjustable sights, the newer guns do not. The 4 1/4" in 327 has fully adjustable ( and MUCH easier to see )sights which become very much appreciated with the wide range of ammo possible. Both 32 mag and 327 really start to wake up starting at about a 4" or more barrel and it is still a nimble enough size to pack around . May not be the right answer for you but it deservers a "lookin at ". All the single action guns are of course wonderful to shoot but they are bulkier,,,,,,, especially the Bisley.

That 4" SP101 looks like a winner. We rarely got any 327's in at the shops I frequent and I will not buy sight unseen. So, when the first Single Seven came through I jumped on it. I wanted a 4 5/8's but the shop couldn't tell me if they'd ever get one so I snatched up the 5.5". The only SP101 that came through was the 3" with lousy sights. When the Blackhawk showed up one day, it left with me.
My first instinct would be to make that 4" into a half lug. Of course, that is without the benefit of being able to handle it. It may feel perfect as-is.
All this talk of .327's made me dig into my safe last night and drag out the Blackhawk. I am constantly amazed at how well put together that revolver is. All the throats are very uniform, cylinder gap a mere .005".
The nice thing about the variety of different models and configurations is, there's more chance that you will find the revolver that is "right" for you. It's pretty obvious that "right" depends a lot on the owner and their intentions and preferences.

Got my original 4 5/8's SS bought in 1986. Then I have the fixed sight 5.5" .32 H&R, the .327 Single Seven, the .327 Blackhawk, and recently another 6.5" .32 H&R SS. If I'm lucky, a 32 Bisley SS after the weekend. I've got my little "I" frame S&W in .32 S&W Long so, yeah, I'm hooked. Oh, and my Single Shot rifle in .32 H&R.

Ooops, you left out the real winner. The 4" SP-101 in 327. Had one but I'm considering revisiting the idea. Is the grip the same one as the newer, smaller GP series grip? The older 3" has almost useable , windage adjustable sights, the newer guns do not. I like the looks of that and the adj rear sight makes the older version the only 3" I'd consider. I was eyeing the one over on RF but fortunately someone else decided they wanted it before I did. Oh, and my Single Shot rifle in .32 H&R. I've considered having my .357 Cadet rebarreled to either .32 Mag or .327 but I always come back to my senses.

Yeah, I'd have to keep the .357 as well but a .327 sure would be nice. I occasionally think about rechambering to .327, but then I come back to my senses!

I just realized that I think I still have my old .223 Handi-Rifle. I wonder if JES will rebore it for the .327?

On a single shot like the Handi-Rifle you are right, the Hornet can be made to work.

i dont think the 223 will work the chamber is to big but a 22 hornet should Thanks I was thinking about the diameter cleaning up the .223 chamber, didn't think about the length. I forgot about Henry making a single shot. AFAIK I've never seen one in the wild around here.
