Sometimes the story is the best part, Especially if it can be verified. I have a Bowen best quality, 3 of Elmer's guns and also a few guns from Ross Seyfried, but I think I'd still take the 44 special. I'm jealous...

Me too. After the #5, the Elmer Keith handgun that really interested me was the Pre-24 that he carried every day before he got his first .44 Magnum S&W. I hope you have it...........

Not that lucky. I own his 338/378KT which I believe is the last rifle that he put a lot of miles on killing elk, antelope, and mule deer. I also have a couple black powder repro guns that he owned a 3rd model dragoon and a Walker. I own Ross's 45 colt model 83 FA, a Linebaugh/Colt SAA, and the lipseys bisley 44 spl that he reviewed, along with a few others.

Congrats, I'm happy for you. I posted back when EMKs guns were on the block that I wasn't sure which was more surprising, that the #5 brought $75,000.00, or that it could be bought for $75,000.00. I think that was before the premium...........

I was leaning towards the Ruger until you said Elmer Keith with provenance. I dont care for the fixed sights but I’d make an exception for what it is. ...you would not have to worry...that gun has a S&W adjustable rear sight... Look of page 102 of SIXGUNS to see the gun...

I'd take Elmer Keith's Colt SAA. I grew up reading Keith & have come to love six-guns partly because of him, double rifles too!

I would take the Colt for the reason that I would never be able to buy one on my own so inheriting one would be the only way I’d ever get one. To have a 1st or second gen SAA 44 special would be Utilitarian! Sacrilegious enough, I would still shoot it and wouldn’t expect it to be a safe queen. Sorry Elmer.
44 special can still do most of the chores history aside. I believe someone just said in another thread, something to be said for what’s been proven over the years.

If I tool Elmer's gun I wouldn't shoot it. I'd take the Bowen and enjoy it.
