I have been eying the new 10mm/40 guns to have the 40 cylinder chambered to 38-40. these posts don't make it any easier. That is a very good plan...

Worked up more loads this morning...
Discovering that I could seat the bullets out and still chamber them made it easy. Only a light push to squarely seat the .401" cast bullets in the .401" throats. This resulted in more consistent accuracy too. Groups averaged about 1" with a couple under.
I settled on an OAL if 1.66". Using 2400 powder I inched up .5 grn at a time until 1425 fps was consistent.
According to my old Phil Sharpe Manual, pressures are quite low, at least relatively speaking. I'd run these loads in a 6-Shot cylinder too.
This is where I'll stop. Brass life is 10+ reloadings at this point. So, no reason to change anything

Rechamber the 10mm cylinder on my new Stainless 10/40 revolver to 38-40. I use the 40 cylinder for plinking etc. I have not had a chance to experiment with it much but it shoots just fine with my PCoated bullets from Mountain Molds.

Would you run them in a converted 6-shot mid frame Blackhawk or is that pushing the limits?

The Midframe 45 Colts are not recommended for over 20,000 psi and I'd limit my 38-40s to the same. Diameters of the 45 Colt and 38-40 are nearly the same. But, that's a cylinder issue. The frame is plenty strong. I even have a 5-Shot 480 Ruger built on one. A 5-Shot 38-40 Midframed Blackhawk would be simply fantastic.

Today, I pushed the 200 grn bullets to 1600 fps using H110. Cases dropped from chambers and have held up fine.
Just doing this for knowledge and it won't become habit. Gun and components are completely capable, but I like the 200 grn GT Hollow Point at 1400 fps best. Drop dead accurate and plenty for me.
This is one sleeper cartridge...
