I went free range axis hunting over the weekend with my Harton 414SM in the Sonora TX area. Both were shot at about 80 yards with 265 gr WFN bullets. One was at a feeder and the other was at a water hole. Shot both through the point of the shoulder. The one on the rock in the pic humped up at the shot and I put another about 2" from the first. I hate to blood trail and being colorblind, I am no good at it. I shoot until they are down and then maybe one more. The other buck in the truck fell at the shot. Lots of great meat coming.

Nice shooting and nice Deer. Axis tastes wonderful! I regret not tanning the hide on mine. I thought the wife wouldn't like it, turns out I was wrong. She wanted the tanned hide more than I! Would love to shoot another.
Two beautiful trophies, congratulations! I've eaten Axis deer once but had it mixed in with a bunch of other wild game so I can't remember what it taste like but everyone says the same thing about how good it is. Good job, 2 80 yd kills & 2 very nice animals. We spent one winter at Bandera & every night they would feed out of the trees towards the RV park, lots of them towards Medina & on towards Kerrville. No way to store the meat, hide or horns so I didn't hunt them.
