Hi,
After weighing my options, I decided to to buy a marlin 1894c 357 from buds. I took it out to the range for the first time today. What a wonderful little rifle! This was only the second time I had ever fired a rifle of any sorts. Previously I had fired a friend's AR. While I can see the appeal of that platform, I wanted something more mechanical.
The Marlin came looking great, with no obvious craftsman flaws. The loading gate is a bit stiff, but I expect that loading rounds will get easier once the gun breaks in a bit (and it never prevented me from getting a round loaded). It also had no problem cycling the variety of 357s I fed it. The rifle is more accurate than I am, and was a lot of fun. So far I am extremely happy with my new "Remlin".

Congratulations!!!

Nice rifle! Congrats.
Been looking at Marlin's Trapper 45-70 lately. Would be a great little heavy brush hog hammer.

Yep, I imagine that 45-70 will do a number on a hog. Do you think a 357 out of a lever can adequately handle a hog (perhaps a 180 grain)?

Congratulations !! A first rifle is a special thing ! Imo you picked a great gun to start with. Depending on the size of the hog or the situation. I think the 357 would work well.

You would be amazed what they kill hogs with (depending on the circumstances).................................

Very nice! I bought an 1894 CST but I notice that now my LGS has the same model you bought. If I didn't have so many Rossi's I would be all over it.

How do you like your new rifle? My eyes didn’t get along with the rear sight on my new marlin. I put a skinner express peep sight on mine. I have yet to shoot it with the new sight. I will be taking it to the range next sunday to sight it in and am bringing some different loads to see if I can figure out what she likes.

It cycles everything I give it (which was my major concern, turned out to be an unfounded concern). A skinner sight would improve my rifle, but I don't have problem with the rear sight. I am just plinking right now, so I am ok with the factory sights. I enjoy shooting the Rem. HTP 125gn JHP. They really fly out of the carbine, but still little to no recoil. I shoot at a range that is very "tactical", so all heads turn when I pull out the 357 lever. Due to the interest that the lever gun attracts at the range, I am surprised more people don't buy one. I guess they only want to invest in the newest AR.

I know what you mean. I belong to a private range that if you not shooting a pistol in the pistol bays youre on the rifle range likely shooting some sort of precision rifle with a scope. Well I showed one day with my SA revolvers, sat down on the ground and started hammering the 100yds steel center plate and the little silhouette target. I swear a cease fire was not called but noticed I was the only one shooting for a moment. A few of them were pretty amazed that a revolver was capable of hitting a target accurately at 100yds.
Thats a nice rifle Adam. Id like to have one in 45 colt
