Great job on the Cape Buffalo! at least we haven't heard anything about "ft lbs of energy" from anyone. I think most here understand how big hand gun calibers kill. 7 feet of penetration gets you well on your way, along with correct placement!! Dick Thanks Dick! I too wouldn't expect anyone to make the muzzle energy argument over here! I don't ever feel like I am undergunned.

Did you recover any of those bullets? What was the PH’s opinion of the wheelgun after the hunt was over?

Sorry for the slow response, but I was trying to reduce the feral hog population in North Carolina and had horrible cell phone coverage. Yes, I recovered bullets and they looked great. I will post pictures later. My PH commented that this was the fastest kill on a Cape buffalo he had ever witnessed. They were pleasantly surprised by the effectiveness of the short guns we used.

Nice article Max. What an adventure. When you have a shot into that dangerous of an an animal, do you empty the cylinders with follow-up shots, or do you reload before you are empty if there is a pause that allows it? In that instance, at such close range, are you cognizant of the PH as your backup if the injured beast charges you if you are empty?
Cheers - Reno

I'm cognizant of backup but not relying on it. I am of the mindset that this is my task to sort out. It just depends on circumstances. I'm not going to stop shooting when shooting opportunities are present to reload. If you have to go a distance to again close with the animal, that is the optimal time to reload. But I personally won't stop if I can still hit it.

That much penetration and still being able to recover slugs is amazing. Well done, Max.
