Can you guys tell me more about the model 63??? I see this 4" used, without a full underlug, in fact the ejector rod is exposed ( no underlug ) while this would be lighter weight, I would worry that it wouldn't be as durable in the rough & tumble world of my farm life... there are a lot of them listed like this... www.gunbroker.com/item/820495851thinking while the full under lug barrel would be heavier, it would be more durable over a partial or no underlug was this same configuration ( 4" J frame ) ever made in an air lite or air weight gun with a 4" barrel, possibly under another model name... or possibly in a 3" ( I would prefer the extra sight radius of the 4" barrel, but could probably get by with a 3" ) but would not want the snubbie version ( I already have a 22 mag air lite snubbie, in the CCW guns )

The LCRx should be sweat n work proof but a 3". The sP101 has a 4". I would say the LCRx is a nice package it just fails to shoot smaller groups than 4 inches at 20yards...I m on my 2nd one...Going back to the SP101

I have an LCRx in 38 special, & I don't shoot it particularly well... in fact I shoot it worst of my snubbies, that go from 22 Mag to 45 Colt... perhaps the extra practice that would also go along with it being a 22 LR, & I'd also get better with my 38... but what I'm really looking for here, is something capable in my hands, of shooting a rabbit at 30 yards, or a Red Squirrel at 15-20 yards... or putting down a bigger animal at closer range if the need arose...

Well... right now I'm leaning towards a model 63 or 317... or a SP-101... I've not found anyone yet to offer any insight on the Charter Pathfinder... this one looks pretty decent for the price, but I know nothing about them... www.gunbroker.com/item/814187742being a single action guy... maybe even a used stainless Single Six, & cut the barrel to 4"... I've not seen a Bearcat with a rear sight, & would prefer an adjustable sight, for the kind of shooting I'd be doing with this revolver OK... I stand corrected... I just found a Bearcat with a rear sight... albeit priced about the same as an SP-101 www.gunbroker.com/item/817751184

My first choice would be the S&W mod 18 Combat Masterpiece it's 4" .22lr. A $" Colt Diamondback .22lr, a 4-5/8" Ruger Single Six.

I suspected, but checked & cringed... I couldn't justify the price the Colts are going for, for use as a rough & tumble farm use gun...

I've had many of the aforementioned .22s over the years and often struggled as you are with deciding which to have on my hip.
Offhand and under field conditions I have always found the S&W K frames to be the easiest to shoot well, followed pretty closely by the Js. My only Bearcat is as accurate as the Smiths but not nearly as easy to apply.
I have had two Charter Pathfinders, both older guns with 3" barrels. I was never able to shoot the first well (I blame my own shortcomings) but the current one has become my most-carried piece. It cannot match the others in ultimate accuracy but is not too far behind in the field. Mostly though, I tend to have it with me because it is not as heavy, bulky, expensive, or pretty as the others.
(A large part of my concern has to do with how much I love my Smiths and fear them being stolen from an untended vehicle. This does not seem to be part of your problem.)
In your shoes I would unquestionably go for the S&W 63 with 3" barrel and no underlug. The size is right, it's plenty rugged (it will be in a holster, right?), and it doesn't cost that much more.
Dammit! ...I may have just talked myself into buying another .22.

I looked at the buy it now price . Wow. Nice roscoe no doubt but halibut cheeks, must be a very Nice holster.
This comment was in reference to the Smith on the previous page. But it looks like all S&W 22s are high.

My vote is the 4" model 63 S&W. That is the classic "kit gun". I don't mind helping people spend their money. I don't see how you can go wrong with the mdl 63, the down side is, they are not cheap, but you do get what you pay for.
Mobjack Now looking at model 63s myself.

Since you mentioned a 3" barrel, maybe look at a S&W Model 60. The 3" had adjustable sights, stainless, J frame so it's very light and easy to pack and can even be found in .357 [if you're really masochistic].

Several years back I picked up an old high standard Sentinel 22 with a 4 inch barrel. Had to file the back sight down a little but otherwise, it's an excellent little beater 22 that will keep a cylinder full of ammo on a silver dollar at 15 paces
