They favor ivory more than they favor any horns I’ve seen. Maybe it’s from a unicorn...

So....On the back of the grips they say PEP and made in TX don't they?
Isn't that Paul E Persinger in El Paso?
And....help me out here somebody...Bowen may have been using Paul for grips as in 2011 Roy Fishpaw was having health problems and had stopped making grips.
When I first started working with Roy he told me he had just started back as the doctors had found a medication for his arthritis that really worked for him. I only found out he was making grips again through communications with either Hamilton or maybe John Taffin. I'm sure John sent me his phone number.

PEP is Persinger, and those look suspiciously toothy. Maybe the seller is more comfortable leaving that detail off?
Both of those guns, the flats look flat and the edges crisp, like remedial metal work happened before the final coarse polish. Hand finished guns?

They will be interesting to watch. Good candidates for a couple of guys to do another half a gun thing.

I only see the SN on the inside of the grips, no makers mark, The grips on the other #5 have Paul's mark. I'm guessing a rechambered factory cylinder. I'm not seeing any additional finish work over and above that required on fitting and finish of the power custom gripframe (which tend to be nicer than the factory ruger gripframes), a new barrel, and the new basepin latch. Come to think of it, with that amount of work, not to many areas escaped attention. Nice gun, but the finish doesn't look like it quite compares to the 3 best quality Bowen guns I've handled.

I think maybe they were prepped for engraving because as mentioned above the flats are flat and the corners are clean. That’s hand work of the highest order. For some reason the process was interrupted. Beautiful guns. Hamilton says he only does one or two #5s a year.

I agree about the toothy part.
Bowen doesn't typically "prep" a gun for engraving. If it is meant to be engraved he usually has the work done and then is finished in his shop.
There really isn't that much special about those guns except for the base pin latch. Sure the finish is really nice and may have been a plus up...maybe... but the .44 magnum doesn't even sport a caliber conversion and I'd bet that barrel is factory too. Front sight...meh.
Yeah there is the grip frame and grips which adds to the original cost but the guns aren't even line bored/blocked.

$14k for the pair. And here I was thinking the market has softened.

I'm guessing that if it was the original owner who consigned them he's not clearing as much as we think. I think Bowen was getting somewhere in the mid 4000s back when he cataloged the #5s. figure in shipping, base gun and a couple other options plus the consignment fees and he may be doing a little bit better than breaking even. Credit to whoever put those two guns up for a penny apiece. I've sold a fair number of guns that way, including a couple nice bowens, FAs, and an engraved ivoey stocked USFA and it's nerve wracking business.
