I was reading Tinker Pierce's blog and he was talking about his guns firing heeled bullets. One of the problems I have heard mentioned is the exposed lube on the cartridges. This made me wonder if powder coating could be acceptable for these types of bullets?

I started playing with that on my 476 WTH gun / cartridge... but ended up using regular lubed bullets... thinking to make it work, it would take another set of molds, to get the dimensions right with the powdercoat... I tried a push through sizing die, but the heel is still the thickness of the powder coat too thick... I have no doubt that it would work well with the dimensions corrected in the mold, for powder coating... 476 WTH is a 45 Colt revolver with a 475 barrel, & the cylinder bored through at chamber diameter... then 476 heel seated bullets are stuffed into a full length 45 Colt cases... it works with full length cases in the Rugers... another similar cartridge ( 480 Achilles ) used the same basic bullet, but shortened the cases to fit in Colt Cylinders

Still think this is one of the coolest ideas to come up on this webforum. What does that bullet weigh ? Velo ?

Nice, quite similar recoil to the 340gr Missouri bullet and 8grs of TB that goes 750ish for me. Like the meplat on yours though !

BTW... I used Lee Alox lube, wiping it off so it's only in the lube grooves, before it gets fully hard...it does dry harder & less sticky than some of the wax based lubes, I feel that its a good option on heel seated bullets, if you're not set up with the right mold to powder coat...
