Now I know why collectors who have a S&W model 631 never sell them.. The 631 is a short production run of stainless J-frame revolvers in .32 H&R Mag and a sweetheart of a "kit" gun... I`ve always carried a small frame Smith in one caliber or another on my hip when hunting.. Most often its been a four inch in 22 mag or a two inch in 22lr...An early three inch model 60-4 in 38 Special has also made a few journeys. I`am not saying this gun is the perfect outdoor packin pistol but it sure is a top contender in the category... The 32 H&R and 327 Federal have put the 32 calber in a much higher position then its earlier version`s...A useful cartridge for the great outdoor`s......

All I can say is "yup". I picked mine up on pure dumb luck. Had a few Ruger 32's, knew about the Smith Model 16, which was already priced out of sight, but the 631 had slipped by me until I saw one very mismarked in a used gun counter. I grabbed it and it's going nowhere else now! 4" with a Roper grip, no box or anything, but that's how it goes.

I"ve had a Model 631 since they were introduced. It is a VERY nice field gun for edible small game. I also have a 60-4 (.38 Special) and sometimes I had to flip a coin to decide which one went with me at that particular time.
I consider either of them as top contenders for the "best" in a companion gun to side a bird gun. Worn cross draw, they were out of the way of the long gun and instantly available for cottontails, snowshoe rabbits, and sitting grouse.

Congratulations; enjoy!
Thus far, we only have one, each, of the fixed-sight snubby version of the 631; his and hers. She got the first one, of course, so, hers and his. I would stand in a line, in the rain, for a longer-barreled version, though I can certainly get by with my 4” SP101 .32 H&R.

A 631 is a worthy goal for sure,,,,, but I never find one,,,,,so. I grab what I can find. By far the easiest (and best) alternative is the 4" SP-101in 327 . It is a do everything 32 ,mild to wild kind of gun. A 3" 327 SP-101 is as good as they get for snubby duty and even has crude windage adj. sights. Another couple of suprising performers have been the Taurus 4" 32 mag built on the 22 frame and the Charter Arms Undercovereet. There IS some 32's out there , but you gotta look.

I got mine from S&W along with matching versions in .22 LR and .22 Magnum

I remember when the .32 H&R came out. Ruger had the lovely little single six and Smith offered a K frame with full "L" frame style underlug. Quite a difference in weight and heft. I would have liked a Smith but they were really just too big. Great target revolver but kinda chunky to pack. If S&W would have offered a thinner barrel profile I'd have been all over it.
I have an older "I" frame .32 S&W Long that I love to carry and shoot. So , I get the appeal of the 631. Congrats!

Nice! I have a 632 (I think it is). It is the 327 mag J frame with 3" ported barrel. It is a nice packin pistol for sure! Your's is very nice!
