Renton, WA? I'd go with the little Colt .32 Yes, Renton, WA. " Posted by Frank V8 hours ago
I think I've seen stocks remarkably like those on your Taurus advertised in the Blue Press for S&W J frames. How do you like those. I've big hands too & have considered them.
I'd choose the S$W." Those aRe the Ergo grip; they are quite a bit larger than this one as they aRe made for The full-size grip-frame, and mine is shortened. A buddy of mine like the grip on my Taurus and bought the Ergos for his J-Frame. He let me check it out, and I liked them but thought they were a bit large, though they do change the outline of the gun significantly, which might help with concealment.

If the 38 S&W is solid & reliable... I'd personally go that route... I used my 38 Single action top break in my avatar, to pass my 2nd CCW renewal... instructor said it was definitely a 1st for him, & I easily outshot several of the newbies with their compact nines... so go out & have fun

BTW... will the 38 S&W cartridges fit in a Magazine you have on hand ( 38 Super, 9 mm, 40 S&W ) to use as a speed loader??? or the 32's if you were wanting to go that route???

Actually a LOT of .32 revolvers will run .32 ACP rounds as they are semi rimmed. So a .32 magazine would be a great idea.

Right now I'm leaning towards the S&W. It works with J-frame speedloaders, and I have several of those. I know a couple of guys that do the magazine trick with their single actions, but I have plenty of speed-strips for the .32 Colt.

I've been looking for a suitable gun to make one, but nothing has come up that I can afford.

Thanks... that means a lot from someone I consider so talented... Mine started out with one like this one for sale right now, at a fairly realistic price... www.gunbroker.com/item/816822604mine was in solid condition mechanically, was cheaper, but had the barrel sawed off, which needed crowning, & needed a front sight, had almost all the nickel peeled off, & came with a J Frame grip on it... I ended up finding a really nice set of original S&W MOP medallion grips for the #2 out of South America, that actually cost more than my original gun, but I think they really add to the final finished gun... Mine after crowning the barrel, & adding a front sight... after a little work... High Polish bluing, Gold plated hammer & trigger, & gold filled engraved caliber designation on the side plate ( sorry picture quality is really poor... I should take some new pictures... these got grainy formatting them for the forum with my old set up ) I also have a little S&W #1 1/2 in 32 S&W, That I'd like to do similar... high polish blue the gun, but nickel the hammer & spur trigger rather than gold plate, since I had nickel S&W medallions added to the 60's vintage Redwood Gil Scottie grips that it I put on it to replace the perfect hard rubber originals, that it came with... this one ( I think ) had the barrel shortened, a wider front sight added, a good crown added to the cut off barrel, & then re nickeled long ago, as the nickel condition on the barrel matches the rest of the gun ( the top strap stamping is cut off, so I know it was not originally a snubbie ) but to me that means it was a period custom concealed carry gun... no way of knowing, but may have been a back up or boot gun, from a working law officer or someone on the other side of the law BTW... if you can live with the 32 S&W cartridge, the model 1 1/2 is a better modern "type" gun, as the cylinders lock up better / differently than the # 2's in 38 S&W, & the 32's are definitely a smaller gun... both are top break auto ejecting single action revolvers though... Also a little secret my retired Tool & Die buddy taught me... both of these guns had a checkering file applied to the top rib, to serrate it, removing / obliterating the partial stampings on the top barrel sight ribs, the serrations aid in sighting / shadow control, & makes them not so obviously chopped...

Fascinating stuff, Magnumwheelman! I'll need to see if I can save up and find one of (either of) those. I'd love to get some clear ballistics gel blocks and test my loads for these calibers; I know they are more potent than stock ammo, but how much more? Be interesting to find out... Right now I am very much leaning towards the S&W for the match, partly fore the 'blow their minds' factor, but partly because I shoot it surprisingly well... the shortened sight radius puts the front and rear sights on the same sighting plain so I get very precise alignment.

I have 3 levels of both 32 & 38 S&W loads... as I collect these, they are in varying levels of heat, from pop gun, with only a pinch of trail boss & soft lead round balls crimped into the cases, which have proven safe in the weakest or pitted guns, so long as they time correctly... a middle ( target ) load with cast bullets, & a warmer ( self defense ) load that I have tried & proven safe in solid guns I own, that I have put in the guns when carried for special occasions... I'm sure these warmer loads would loosen up these old guns if shot in high numbers, so I mostly shoot the mid level target loads, & those are what I used in the range portion of my 2nd CCW renewal... BTW the instructor was impressed, as I got a case trapped under the extractor star, & was able to clear & reload faster than the stove piped compact nines that the newbies were having trouble with... ... & I agree these two point very naturally for me as well

one of my other brothers of these two wears a set of perfect S&W "red" rubber grips, which are kinda cool, with red, with black graining in them... one of my #2's has an 8" barrel, which are also pretty rare ( that might actually be the one now wearing the red grips ) now that I look at these pictures, they look like they fit the 32, not the 38's

I did buy this one on line several years ago for cheap, but it was so worn out that I sold for someone to put in a shadow box... but this is how it came, & it does look close to the "style" of my other one... too bad it was shot so loose it would have taken a total rebuild...

If memory serves, you have the most of yourself, time, and work in the Smith. It gets my vote for that reason, not to mention all the others that have been noted.

...and it's all for nothing. A case of summer flu has come along and knocked me on my ass, so I won't be going in any case.
