www.collectorsfirearms.com/ruger-custom-new-model-blackhawk-40-s-w-10mm-pr44397/Collector's has a 15% off sale today. I don't know the significance of the 40S&W on the frame as the ones I've seen are marked 10mm. Does that mean it left Ruger as 40S&W only and the 10mm is scratch-made or if a factory cylinder was fit and reamed after the fact? If I shot or loaded either caliber I'd have bought this one already. The 40S&W could be re-chambered as well for more power. The SBH or Bisley hammer on a plow handle in a moderate caliber is my favorite configuration in a revolver. Alan isn't working on Rugers anymore, as most here know. The only rub is it's hard to tell what work was done to it. Front sight +/- barrel trim, action work seem likely. Could be a new barrel, could have honed throats, could have endshake corrected- hard to say. The BC gap does look tight, so that might indicate something. Either way, I'd love to hear opinions on this gun. I bet there's more to know from the information given that I'm missing.

Im far from being an expert but the only 40 S&W only revolvers I have heard of/ seen were part of a short run of Vaqueros made a number of years ago. I think it had something to do with a sheriff dept in California. The 40 S&W on the frame doesn't look "rugerish" to me either.

The serial number is from a 357 so it has a custom barrel and probably was a convertible so both cylinders were rebored and rechambered. You can’t tell from the pics if it’s marked on top of the barrel.

Actually, Ruger is producing a Stainless Convertible, in 40 S&W/.10mm. Mine also has the 357 series prefix in the serial number. I'd say that somebody had Harton do some slicking up etc of a production gun. BUT,,, I need to look at mine to see how the frame is marked. But mine did come with 2 cylinders too.
Before that,, there was a run of special Vaqueros in 40 S&W only for a LEO Dept in Calif. The overruns were sold off. I have one of those as well.

Also Harton quit working on Rugers long before the current run of 40/10mm.

The SN comes back as a late 90s 357 magnum, predating the current frames marked 10 mm auto. The grips would be right for that timeframe.
Pretty sure this is a 357 re-barreled, new front sight, reamed to 40S&W, auxiliary cylinder fit and reamed to 10mm, and certainly an action job.
Squawberryman, thanks for the offer but I'd end up buying bulk 40S&W and stick to that.
Ream that 10mm auto to 10mm magnum or pick up a third cylinder and have it cut to 10 magnum, you've got a gun that's cheap to shoot as a 40 and powerful as a 41 mag.
I've just got those bases covered and do my best to avoid taper crimped rounds that headspace off the case mouth.
Also, I'm in Texas so unlike most of y'all I'm on the hook for 8% sales tax. Is it obvious I'm trying to resist buying this one?

Looking at it a little more, you can see it was a 357 to begin with based on the barrel intrusion into the frame window. The smaller calibers are made with shorter cylinders so you can't put a longer 45 colt cylinder into a 357 gun. Compare that gun to the Ruger 40/10mm convertibles on GB.

OK, my opinion, you are all missing an opportunity to get YET ANOTHER cylinder set in 38 WCF.... now that will add some class to any day of shooting.
I personally think this is an outstanding deal and Hartons probably won’t make another ... price is excellent in a set of calibers that can take anything deer sized.
Now I’m considering it too...
Nothing comes out of Hartons shop that isn’t done right.

I did end up with this. Those guys at Collectors Firearms made it easy to complete the transaction. I have been in the store but never purchased from them. A fellow named Vincent helped me and it was an extraordinarily easy purchase. I looked last night and I do have a stainless NM Blackhawk 357 cylinder that could become a 38-40.
