The Mk.1 .455 Webley is my favorite of the top-breaks, so when this one was offered as a trade I snapped it right up. Serial number suggests that it was made in 1888. From it's markings it was originally issued in the Army, then to the Royal Navy at the outset of WW1. Some time after that it was cut for clips to load .45 ACP and imported to the US. Not wonderful cosmetically, but it is mechanically sound with good lock-up and a somewhat heavy but butter-smooth double-action trigger. While it is regrettable that this gun's cylinder was cut it does play into my evil plan- I'm going to shoot this gun in an ASI match- with BP cartridges. I've ordered a number of moon-clips, which can be modified to accept rimmed cartridges like .455 or .450 Adams. One of the original horn grips has a chunk missing, so yesterday afternoon I sat down and knocked out a new pair of grips. I had a chunk of unidentified hardwood from a building-materials salvage place so I used that. The grips were hand-sanded to 3000-grit then finished with carnauba wax. I have some light load in .45 ACP ready to go, and will be taking this to the range today or tomorrow.

Things come to mind.."In defense of the Realm !" and "Stand off you bloody sods !" Bloody wogs, bloody Huns, etc.. Maybe some anger management classes ? Gotta wonder how many times it was belted on to go in harms way..

I love the color of those grips, they really came out phenomenal. I pick up little bits of knowledge here and there on the forum for the time I hope I get to play around.. Someone mentioned these spacers as well for in-between the grips so they're more solid I believe. www.mcmaster.com/unthreaded-spacers

Had the Webley out to the range yesterday, and it is a shooter! Contrary to opinions that the gun would shoot low with light (200gr) bullets it shot dead-on to POA. I think I'm in love... Hard to tell in the photo, but there are actually three hits in the X-ring (shot at 7 yards.) I'm really liking this gun!

Congrats on such a nice find! I hope to find a Mk VI someday that I like. And also, the grips you made look really good on that gun!

I like that, I shot a friends years ago that had been altered to fire .45ACPs. A fun gun.

So, two eight-packs of moon clips arrived today... guess what gun I'll be shooting in the ASI match this weekend?

I always thought those were neat. That moon clip mod is about perfect.

A normal smokeless 45 ACP load is basically a proof load in these old guns. Let us know how you did and whether you could see the target enough after letting off a few.

Would Trail Boss be too hot for these guns? I thought it was supposed to mimic BP pressures?
