I found another interesting gun (to me at least) here recently. It's a Rossi 720 three inch 44 special. I frequent a lot of local gun shows and stores but I see very few Rossi revolvers. I know Taurus bought them out in the late ninety's so believe this one is from before that. Really though I have no idea how old this gun is and there doesn't seem to be any way of finding out. I love the idea of a three inch 44 special and I am well aware of the S&W 696 and the current pricing. The last 696 I saw at a gun show the guy wouldn't come off of $1200. That will keep them out of my hands. This 720 in good shape and with the box cost me $295+tax. My LGS has a 1 year in house warranty on their used firearms but they made me sign a waiver saying this gun is as-is. I'll take my chances. Mechanically it all checked out.

Good price. Heard good things about these for years. Handled one once and it was well built. Would like one for myself.

There are 2 pics and a brief mention of the Rossi in John Taffins book, the Book of the 44. Think ya done good, a bit stouter all around than my much carried Bulldog.

I am always on the lookout for one of these as well as the Taurus 431 .44 special. Never tried the Rossi m720 personally although have examined a couple coming thru shop that I did store warranty work for and both seemed functional with good dimensions. Way back in day when Taurus introduced the m431 series I bought one quickly wanting a more tunable action and touch more heft than the CA Bulldogs that we’re having some QC issues at time. My example shot like a scatttergun having huge throats ,way out of spec! Sent it back to Taurus twice and they never replaced cylinder ,providing very sorry explanations and sample target on 2nd trip. I finally took lose at local pawn shop who had a gp100 I h@d eyes on

Also note that as big a fan I am of S&W- my m396 mountain lite really stunk in my opinion. While the .460 & .500s have gov3n great results with the newer ECM barre letters for me that particular gun and my m329PD desired very long, hard and therefore heavy gaschecked bullets to shoot ups to expectations with cast! That kinda ruined the concept of mountain lite in caliber .44 Special for me
