GATOR89: YOUR REVOLVER MAY HAVE BEEN USED AND ABUSED DURING THE MEXICAN REVOLUTION. I HAVE AN EARLY NS IN 45 COLT THAT BELONGED TO Gral. TOMAS URBINA, ONE OF PANCHO VILLA's GENERALS. THE GUN WAS A GIFT TO ME OUT OF MEXICO, BEEN REBLUED AND NEEDS SOME MECHANICAL WORK, BUT IT HAS THE GENERAL'S NAME ENGRAVED ON THE BACKSTRAP OF THE GRIP FRAME. WOW, Rey!!! What a prize!

San 249XX, Colt website says made in 1910.
Despite the bad pictures I took, I am very impressed with the barrel Numrich sent me, good rifling, no pitting. Marked United States Property on the underside. Definitely will correct the cylinder barrel gap issues.

I'll sure enjoy seeing it when you get it all done.

I notice that barrel doesn't clear the frame, but is actually recessed? That makes for one heck of a cylinder gap. The barrel I purchased from Numrich solved the cylinder gap issues, pics coming soon.

It looks MUCH better now! I'm afraid i it were mine though, it would have to be reblued.

I usually would not refinish, but as you have rebuilt that fine gun, I may be in agreement with having that one properly reblued.

No rush to do anything but enjoy it at this time. Thanks for the commentary.

Gator, from looking at the 'after' picture of the amount of barrel stub showing in the frame window, the cylinder gap 'before' must have been HUGE. Did you or anyone actually shoot it with that much gap or has there been something done to the cylinder, or …what?
Very nicely done though by-the-way. I like it.
Not that you asked but, if it were mine, I'd shoot it as-is and add my own layer of patina. I am really attracted to those guns that show their use/age while still keeping their usefulness. But then I have a problem of wanting to keep my pretty guns pretty and tend to make safe queens of them.

The gap was at least 1/8 inch. I am very pleased with my first New Service.
