This popped up in the WTS on another forum, "shooter's grade" New Service 45C with chipped faux pearl grips, non-original cylinder and a Christy's barrel. Since another member had sent a PM, I put my name in the hat as second in line. Well the first guy passed... Due to relocating to FL the gun is in the 5 day hoosegow at the receiving FFL. So all I have is the seller's pics. I have already ordered a set of walnut grips and a correct barrel from Numrich, so down the rabbit hole I go.

I probably could have lived with the current barrel if it did not have a screw hole for an ejector housing.

Wow ! If that poor thing could talk. What are your plans to give it another life ? Nothing too extravagant, install the correct barrel, the wood grips and send some Trailboss loads down range. Keep my eye peeled for some genuine New Service grips just to have for photo opportunities. Otherwise, just provide a home for an old veteran!

THE CYLINDER LATCH TELLS ME IT IS AN EARLY NS. I HAVE A 1909 ARMY 45 COLT NS AND IT SHOOTS VERY GOOD WITH TRAIL BOSS. JUST REMEMBER, YOUR GUN MAY BE 100 YEARS OLD, GOOD LUCK WITH IT AND THANKS FOR GIVING IT A GOOD HOME.

No matter, it is mine now!

GATOR89: YOUR REVOLVER MAY HAVE BEEN USED AND ABUSED DURING THE MEXICAN REVOLUTION. I HAVE AN EARLY NS IN 45 COLT THAT BELONGED TO Gral. TOMAS URBINA, ONE OF PANCHO VILLA's GENERALS. THE GUN WAS A GIFT TO ME OUT OF MEXICO, BEEN REBLUED AND NEEDS SOME MECHANICAL WORK, BUT IT HAS THE GENERAL'S NAME ENGRAVED ON THE BACKSTRAP OF THE GRIP FRAME.

That would be neat if my new Colt had such a history.

Nice save!
Question from a Colt dummy: what is a Christy's barrel and how is it different from the original?

I notice that barrel doesn't clear the frame, but is actually recessed? That makes for one heck of a cylinder gap.

I know that many others will disagree, but that gun screams "Bobby Tyler" to me.
