THAT looks like a handy rifle. Good Choice the wood stoc, much better. Definitely bed the action and go from there. Free float, add shim at the forend tip if ff doesn’t work.

Yeah, she's come a long way with the new stock, shimmed bolt and Volquartsen sear. It occurred to me that the wood stock has different bedding, density, stiffness, etc and may well change the groups. Will be interesting to shoot it some. This has gone from my least favorite to a serious contender when I'm getting gear together for a hunt. It is sweet handling!

Got to shoot a few groups with the newly stocked rifle today. Groups at 50 yards were running around 1.5", but the rest setup wasn't completely solid either. The good news is, no inconsistency or thrown shots when hot. This is a very different rifle than it was stock. The trigger is awesome and the walnut gives the whole rig a classy traditional look and feel. Did a fair amount of offhand shooting at steel plates and it was really ringing them. This will be a fun little hunting rifle. Can't wait to try it out this Fall.

Did it just drop in the stock, or how much did you have to modify it to get it to work? Look great

did you ever try 300MP in it? I have noticed playing with it in 357 Marlins, the barrel doesn't heat up so fast as with 296, or 2400 powder. I haven't tried in in 44 yet. Still playing with it in the 357 lever guns. The 44 rifles are next

Look great It dropped in, but the pressure was more on the left side of the barrel than the right so it got a little fitting to even things out. All in all, the walnut stock is a great addition to the stainless rifle. Accuracy and aesthetics are both improved. I did seal everything with Tru oil, including under the recoil pad. It will still be my rainy day woods rifle and I look forward to hunting with it.

As it is, the Deerfield, 77/44 and my Winchester 94 Trapper all do well with the IMR4227 load. This makes my life simpler.

It's been HOT in the South, but finally got a successful hog hunt in with the 77/44. This pig presented a less than optimal shot (as I looked for a tree for my treestand) but the quick handling Ruger came through. My son also busted one with his Ruger GSR the same morning. Great hunt!

Congratulations, that looks like a plump porker. Seems as though it is all you hoped for in a great little rifle! I have several Howa Mini’s for small carry rifles. One in 7.63x39 I opened up with a 6.5 Grendel chamber reamer and made a .311 Grendel on it. It’ll bump the 125 Sierra along at over 2600fps and would do well on hogs and deer I’m thinking.
Looking at that picture again, that looks like a pretty big boar there! Must be over 200lbs?

From the numbers you mentioned, I'd think the Howa will do quite well. Light, quick handling carbines are a real delight for rough country hunting. I've shot bigger hogs, but this one was a good sized chunk of pork. The gristle shield was 1"+ thick. He was impressively built, a little woods tank! The 240 Hornady XTP always seems to get the job done but I'm thinking of trying the Speer bonded 240/270 JSP for extra penetration at rifle velocities.

The fast handling little Ruger is proving to be very good at putting pork chops on the grill. Went back out this morning and saw this plump sow on the opposite side of a small canyon. Circled around and came in along the rock wall until she jumped up at about 15 feet. The Ruger took her down on a dead run, quartering away. Also had a close (to close) encounter with venomous reptilious on the way out. It never made a sound and I almost stepped on it. Mr Kimber squared him away.
