I finally picked up one today 45acp/45AR. In original blue box with cleaning kit, half moon clips, and owners manual. I bought it off the original owners son cause dad passed and he’s selling a few of his guns. Has some wear as it was used in competition. I added a pair of Hogue grips I had sitting around. My goal is when money permits having barrel cut to 3.5” with interchangeable front sites. Round butt it and maybe change the rear site like gold bead front and Bowen V notch rear.

JIMTX: YOU ARE MAKING ME CRY, YOU WANT TO TAKE ONE OF THE ALL TIME CLASSIC S&W N FRAMES AND BUTCHER IT, SHAME ON YOU. BACK IN THE 1970's THAT WAS ONE OF MY GRAIL GUNS, AND THEY ARE SHOOTING SOB's. CURRENTLY I HAVE MINE SIGHTED IN WITH SOME OF REED's 240gr WFN AUTO RIM LOADS, PLUS I MADE UP SOME SNAKE SHOT FOR IT USING SPEER 45 COLT CAPSULES. BTW, DO NOT SHOOT THE CCI 45 ACP SNAKE ROUND IN THIS GUN AS IT IS SAID THAT THEY BACK UP AND LOCK UP THE CYLINDER. KEEP AND USE THIS GUN AS IS, LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR A SHORTY.

It would have to be in rough shape for me to do that to a 25-2. I shot one in competition back in the 1970's, would not shoot .451 sized bullets well but one I figured out what it liked it was a shooter!

Sorry I type fast and auto correct sucks, I know the difference between site and sights thanks. As far as me doing this to a “classic” , well S&W never made the model I’m describing but they supposedly made a tiny amount for the FBI, don’t think I find one for sale though. Plus I’ve seen this done to others by a couple gunsmiths and it not only looks great, is functional, but on GB sell for a lot the last one went for over $2k so I’m not the only one with this idea.
I’m sorry but other members here come up with stupid crap to do or have done to a classic or worse yet rare gun, but I don’t blast them fir their ideas of what they want. Obviously not what you gents want but that’s ok.
None of you complain when a 25 losses it’s barrel to a Ruger SA for a custom look. This 25-2 is nice but has a lot of blueing loss and marks not evident in 2 quick pics, it has been used in competition, the action is super light meaning the SA pull is so light you can’t touch the trigger or rest your finger on it, it will go off. The non pinned front sight has lost its black in many spots and black marker or sight touch ups don’t always work IMO. As well, You can go on GB any given day and bid on over 1-2 dozen different 25-2s, it’s not a 25-1, pre 25, miss marked 25,etc. and be honest people take much rarer Smith’s and SAs and chop them up for custom guns but no one complains or says boo , we all say looks great!

Google up some photos from a Pistolsmith (retired) named Vern Ewer who worked under the business name of Spokanguns. His specialty was 5 shot K frame 44 spls and 3.3" 25-2s. He did beautiful work. He cashed in the business and became chief armorer for the Nuke Reactor site in central Washington, from which he ultimately retired. I knew Vern and he did some work for me when he was a private shop. His 25-2s were a joy to carry as a plainclothes cop.

YUP,,,, Modification and customization are maybe 80% of the conversation here . EVERY gun here that has been changed in anyway is most assuredly SOMBODYS icon leaving them shocked but,,,,,,,, . It boils down to Your money , your gun , your project. On the blue site they can be free to be anally shocked if a screw is out of place , that's what they do. Here , no one should cast a snide stone about personalization. J. Jovino did hundreds of them.

HEY LIGHTEN UP WE ARE JUST POKIN' YOU A LITTLE. I HAVE A MODEL 25 "CLASSIC" .45 ACP ON WHICH I HAD THE BARREL CUT TO 4". DIDN'T COMPLAIN TO MYSELF.

Yep J. Jovino did the last one I bid on but it ran away from me from under $1000 for weeks to well over $2000 in seconds! Yet other model guns he has done sit for sale getting re-listed over and over , not expensive either. I guess most people only like his N frame work the most. That pic above is nice! I mean sure I could get a 25-14 2.5” VS 3.5”, but it’s SQ not RB, it’s post lock with mim parts, not a slick & smooth pre lock, etc. I could get it in blued or nickel I’ll give it that. I have a 4” 625 PC RB, only post lock I own or have owned. While the PC guns are tuned they still are no pre lock action, the mim parts don’t do it for me and the thin pointed hammer I don’t care for. When I first saw a 25 immediately I pictured a 4” RB but after owning and shooting a pre model 27 3.5” I revamped my idea for a project a bit.

I think I heard of Vern a long time ago.

It's your gun, do as you like. At the end of the day, it's just a shaped piece of steel. I've never given any thought to a guns value or rarity before cutting on it.

That’s a beauty. Your gun, your money, you do to it what you want. Pics when you get it completed please.

Certainly not every S&W revolver is best left in it's original state. Some are in really good shape or really uncommon but otherwise there were hundreds of thousands of these things made. I'm all for leaving your scarce revolvers unfired in an original box but this gun has seen it's best days go by. If you're going to repurpose it to use it and bring the life back into it then I say go for it.
Now if you wanted to chop up a 29-1 (which I have seen) then I might advise against that.

That’s nice! $2500 to start ouch but someone will buy it. It’s ususlly the J framed ones I see take awhile to sell , Jovino N frames and colts go quick and for a lot usually.
