I haven't shot this for a while nor my Ruger Bisley .44 Special, so took these along with the Colt Border Patrol and S&W 26-1 .45 Colt to the range. Normally I shoot the Smith and Colt .357 better than anything else but today, once I got re-used to the trigger on the Colt NF it turned in the best showing of the 4 guns. This 10 shot group was fired offhand at 17 yards using 240gr XTP's and 7.5grs of Unique in Starline cases lit with CCI 300 primers.

GOOD GUN. THE EARLY NEW FRONTIERS, i.e. 2nd GENERATION COLTS/1st ISSUE NF's, ARE EXCELLENT REVOLVERS. I HAVE AN EARLY 7 1/2 INCHER, 357 MAG, THAT I JUST GOT A No. 5 STYLE BELT MOUNTAIN BASE PIN FOR, AND WANT TO WORK UP A JACKETED BULLET LOAD FOR, ANOTHER GUN PROJECT FOR THIS SUMMER.

Mine of course is a later, newer 3rd gen gun.

That is one beautiful Colt! I sent some lead downrange black-powder-style today. .44 Colt, loaded with a 200gr. swaged heel-base .451 bullet over 28gr. of FFFg with a federal small pistol primer. This turned out to be a great load for this gun- quite accurate. Unfortunately I got distracted and didn't get a pic of the target- which was rather crowded with holes by that point anyway... Yep, that's a sh*t-eating grin on my face. I'd forgotten how much I like shooting black powder- always a hoot! Here's a pic of the gun:

I have not had the opportunity to shoot a black powder handgun, but the look on your face sure makes me want to!

I was out to the range last week with a box of the exact same load which I usually shoot in a Model 24. Decided to put some into my USFA with about the same result. Surprised me a bit. Loaded a bunch more. XTP's are a bit spendy but find a load they like and they are accurate as anything.
