Age wise I am going to be 80 in two weeks. My first article was published in 1967. Last year I wrote 83 articles and columns. I have had five books published and four more are now at the publisher with The Book of the .45 scheduled for release this August and then followed by the updated version of The Book of the .44. In spite of what some people may think writing is hard work. Tomorrow morning I will be shooting several handguns to gather data. I will spend the afternoon putting all my data into the computer and also taking pictures. I will have more than eight hours in before I ever write a single word. For my reloading columns hours and hours and days and days of work are required. I spent last week loading .30-30 and .35 Remington loads. Over 1,000 rounds and 80+ combinations of bullets and powder.' If you want to get into writing there are some absolutes. Number one, you must have something to say. Number two, you must have excellent pictures. Pictures are absolutely critical. You must have a quality digital camera, no phone pictures! When you do take pictures pay attention to your background. I have had aspiring writers send texts to me to read and their pictures simply would not do. I had one fellow from Texas send me an article with pictures and the background for his pictures was his garage door!! In the whole beautiful state of Texas the best background he could find was a garage door. No way, that would fly with editors. Pictures should be taken outside out of direct sunlight. Still pictures should be taken in the shade. All of my articles and pictures are E-mailed directly to my editors. At the very least you must be able to send articles and pictures in on a CD or thumb drive. Are you willing to work for no pay? You made not get paid but you will get experience, much-needed experience. I have done hundreds of articles for free for such papers as The Silhouette and The Sixgunner. I still do free for such publications as Smith & Wesson and Ruger Collectors Associations. I wish you all the best. GOOD SHOOTIN' AND GOD BLESS, JOHN I took a shot at the writing thing myself, but after a few years it sort of petered out. I don't think I had the right temperament for it, and I surely don't miss it. I came in right at the transition from film to digital and it took me a while to get the digi thing figured out. Editor at Gun World retired, and the new guy and I butted heads right off and that took care of that. Also wrote for Small Arms Review for a while and when they up and switched to digital, they just shipped the several articles I had sitting with them awaiting publication home to me and said we need all new dig pics, resubmit if you want to. I blew my stack and said wow guys, way to treat a contributor! And that after some 30 odd articles ended my illustrious career. Its tough to break in to and even harder to stay there. As I said, I don't miss it.

48 here.
Started in 2000 with an affinity for Smith & Wesson revolvers and soon migrated to Single Actions. All but one Smith revolvers are gone. All replaced with single actions. This probably happened in 2005 so I'm about 15 years into my love affair with the Single Actions.

Interesting topic and poll. I'm 43 and enjoy all types of guns. I love single actions the most. My goal this year (same as the last few years) is to hunt enough with a single action to get a bead on and connect with a whitetail. Much respect for those who successfully hunt with a single action and those who contribute to the 100yd/iron sight thread.

37
I'm 35. I was lucky to start shooting with my pop's guns, many of which are now mine. High Standard Victor, Ruger Blackhawk Bisley in 45 Colt, Colt 1911s, Security Six, Contenders, Nylon 66, Ruger 77 in 7 Mauser, Browning B78- good exposure to good platforms which gave me some direction early on.
I bounced from 1911s to DA revolvers, throw in a couple of rifles and shotguns, then ended up going down the SA road because I shoot them better than any other platform. I finally feel like I'm starting to get a handle on what works best for me. In the meantime, I wanted to become proficient with a wide variety of platforms and I think I have.
Started reloading at 17, now it's getting out of hand.

I would hate top be in the majority, so you 10 to 60 folk keep voting! Twenty is a poor base age, as many shooters begin younger. David Bradshaw

I'm about 33 now. I thought I was among the younger members, looks like I'm right! I joined the board in my twenties and I have learned A LOT from you guys. Hopefully I continue learning!

Just turned 68. Funny my interest in guns; for a long time, I was the only one in the family (among 4 siblings) that was attracted. When I was a kid, the only gun in the house was my Dad's single shot, bolt action .22.

Turned 43 two days ago on the 18th. This is the best board I've been a part of.
