Hi,
i’ve been I’m the process or writing some articles of my journey to the world of single action and the ages represented in this segment of the industry. I would appreciate your responses to help further my writing and either encourage my writings or make me reconsider. I’m 34which I view on the younger side to be into custom single actions and lever. Guns especially since I don’t shoot SASS. I also come from a”tactical” background having started working for SureFire at the ripe age of 19 so there is that added layer. I am currently 34. I would. Greatly appreciate your participation for my own personal knowledge as well as the articles i’m Writing that one day I hope to be published. Having been inundated with tactical this and ‘tactical’ that for so many years the single action work has appeared like a sanctuary. I have been around for a bit just not posted much. Anyways I would great lay appreciate your participation! I have been learning so much from you guys for years and have so much more to. Learn still! Now I just need to finish a few more sales of some of my ‘tactical’ guns so I can afford these other ones. I’m immensely thankful that a place like this exists where I can actually learn about the history and where we are now, I already have bought and am reading a number of foundation naval books so I can try to get up to speed. I’m just curious if there is anyone else like me here:0
now to sell off some more guns and get the new 6 guns and lever guns rolling in! Thanks for your participation!!!
thanks trebor

Welcome to the world of SingleActions... Having come from a LE "tactical" background where I mostly used DA revolvers and semis I think you find your time out shooting much more pleasant and relaxing. I'm 66 and before 2001 I had only had owned three SAs, a Ruger Super Blackhawk and two .41 Magnum Blackhawks. For some reason the SA bug bit and now own over 10 but have had another 15 at least pass through...
I also think that if you had put in a 40-60 category and a 60+ category you would find that most of the people on here are in the 60+ range....
It's funny that a friend who also had mostly semis and is now a big SA shooter were discussing this same thing a few months ago...he is 72 and I don't think he owned but a couple of SAs before 2000 either...

I'm 46 and still very much in the "tactical world" because of work. I shoot a lot for work, and really feel fortunate to do so, but I don't get to shoot the stuff I really enjoy as much as I'd like. I get some funny looks from guys I train with whenever the conversation turns to guns and I describe all the "weird" stuff I'm into! It's too bad really but if the subject turns to custom revolvers, single shot rifles, real black powder, or whatever, I usually lose them.

The FFL I use is a shop that caters to the tactical crowd more than anything else, but every time a revolver comes in for me they are curious enough to handle them and ask questions. I am slowly trying to “educate “ them - haha!

Another category for 60+ would have been interesting. 50 next month and can’t imagine why everybody doesn’t love single actions, but each to there own. I’ve been addicted to them since is was a kid, and my boys are following in my footsteps.

I'll be 40 this year, and have been hanging around this forum for a decade or so. I shoot six(& five) guns, levers, AR's, 1911's and have a dozen barrels for my two Encore rifle frames.

I’ll be 42 this year. I purchased my first handgun 9 years ago in 2010. Before that I only had my dad’s Remington 700 30-06. Hadn’t thought about it much until my wife said I needed a hobby and an outlet... so, here I am.
First gun was a Taurus 66 357. Still is my best and easiest carry gun for concealment. Took me a long while to settle on it though. Did a lot of research into different kinds and ended up with revolvers for the versatility, power, and simplicity of the platform. To this day I have a lot more revolvers than semi autos (3... RIA 1911 and 2 22lrs).
Anyway, my S.A. craze started with looking for a big bore. I decided I wanted a 44. Double actions seemed way out of my price range so started researching single actions. This led me to Jim Taylor’s writings on leverguns.... found a few options but struggled to pull the trigger... finally, stumbled across a Ruger Blackhawk 41 mag with a 6.5” barrel at a price I could afford. $400 out the door. So, I found Jim’s Email from Gunblast and emailed him asking if I was nuts... the rest is history. Now I have 2 Blackhawk 41s one of each barrel length and love them ( and the cartridge). I don’t have time to really get good with them, but I love the simplicity and power of the S.A. I have even managed to find a workable ccw rig for the shorter barrel and took it all over Texas a few years back.
I still have a few double actions, but there is something about the old school wisdom of revolvers that have me hooked.
I don’t bother looking at tactical anything. Just not me... and too complicated for me.

The shop I use is a good friend that I made years ago while competing in practical matches, so his shop is full of old WW2 machine guns and pistols as well as modern machine guns and pistols. He blames me for giving him another avenue to spend funds,......custom SA’s OP, I’m 55, and of a hunting, military, practical shooting background, plus competitive archery, so fairly diverse. I’ve always liked single actions and hunting with handguns, just never really got neck deep into it due to competitive interests taking most all of my money. Now that I’m weening myself off of competition, I get to spend more time with stuff I’ve been putting off. BTW, I’m normally at the Burris booth for SHOT and NRA, so stop by some time. Trapr

At 53, I've done tactical training and work (former jobs), 5 years of serious 3 gun competition, hunted since my early 20s. My Dad gave me my first 22 rifle at age 4 (still have it) and I've been shooting ever since. Today's "tactical" marketing and plastic guns are not my thing. "Tactical" content on forums and YouTube by mommy's little biscuit eater (from her basement) does little for me and I am sick of it. That is why I hang out here. I'm certainly not against innovation and technology, but traditional guns of the American sportsman are what I really appreciate. Nowadays I hunt, fish, hike camp and paddle, sometimes all in one trip, lol. I only own one SA sixgun (Ruger Flattop 44 SPL) but have Smith revolvers, 1911s and various long guns. Here's what my kit is likely to look like this time of year...

I will be 62 in a few months and started hunting big game with a handgun about 40 years ago. The first deer was a black tail buck taken with a plain Jane S&W 38 Special during a Thanksgiving Day storm.
After losing my hunting partner, my dad, in 1984 I started archery hunting with some buddies who were traditional archers. Custom recurved, long bows and self bows were our weapons of choice. After buying the septic pumping business I started mentally writing checks my body couldn’t cash lifting concrete tank lids and after 4 shoulder surgeries I had to give up the traditional bows. I could no longer shoot every day like I needed to in order to stay proficient shooting instinctively without sights.
It was actually when I was recovering from one of these surgeries that I was reading an article by John Taffin and he mentioned the work of Hamilton Bowen and his just published book, The Custom Revolver. I blame my subsequent affliction on JT, Hamilton and the man with no neck, 2 Dogs.
Oh what a pleasant affliction it was been as I near the end of my custom revolver journey!
