I still like it's chances of a come back. Every time the subject comes up there seems to be a lot of talk, mostly in favor of another 357 Maximum revolver. Great long range revolver cartridge for almost anything we shoot in North America with the exception of very few animals if you use correct bullets & common sense. Recoil is very easy to manage for any seasoned handgunner, compared to the recoil of a 500, which very few can truly master. If we want to really hope then lets hope for both & see how the cards fall.

I want one for sure, used to shoot the cartridge out of a 10 inch contender ! Made a big mistake and shot i across the hood of my pickup, burned a black streak clear across ! I wonder how long the barrel might be ! at least 8" !

The .357 Maximum thread in the Rifles branch of the forum stirred my imagination about this idea again. Any update as to whether or not we'll ever see a new .357 Maximum from Ruger? With the new Bisley Hunter in .45 Colt available now, this is definitely next on my "must have" list.
If anyone is listening.... a stainless Bisley Hunter, please. 10", 7.5" perhaps.

I guess I will be the "wet blanket" on this, but I don't think this will happen. The first question is, how many five shot (454 and 480) Bisleys were produced? If I am not mistaken, the only difference between them and a standard .44 Bisley Super Blackhawk, is the cylinder material and five shot action. The demand has not been "earth shaking". Now add in a unique frame, in a caliber few shoot (except here), and you have a gun that is expensive to manufacture, with a limited ability to be profitable. The second question is, what would the gun have to sell for, and would the market support that price? Also, was the "gas-cutting" a real issue? If so, I could see a problem with people trying to load light bullets to hyper velocity with a new gun.
In the past, Ruger was family owned, and had the ability to take on a money losing proposition, for the notoriety of a winning gun in IHMSA (International Handgun Metallic Silhouette Association) competition. I don't know how big a following IHMSA has today, that would be a question David Bradshaw could answer, but the Rugers are not here to champion it. The other source of sales, would be handgun hunters, though that is a growing market. The only possible way I see one could happen, is if Lipsey's put in an order for a run of them. They also are in the business to make money, and would have a better idea if the guns would sell. I purchased a 480 Bisley (plus a Single-Seven 327), and have been completely underwhelmed with the build quality. I definitely would not purchase a new .357 Maximum. At this point in time, I won't be buying any more new Ruger revolvers period, due to the non-existent quality. Old used ones, yes. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.
I assume a number of people might be angry with my views, but I really think a new .357 Maximum would be a neat gun, and even neater, with good build quality. I hope I a wrong on both counts (the bad quality & not having a new Maximum).
Maybe the gun to shoot for (see what I did there?) is a BFR in .357 Maximum. I don't have any first had knowledge of the BFR, but have never heard anything bad about them. I wonder if the cartridge may be too long for the standard frame, and kind of short for the long frame? Maybe an X-frame S&W, might be another option.

I think a 7 or 8 shot BFR would be totally doable.

These mid frame guns Ruger has been putting out the last few years are some of the most accurate guns they've ever made. We need to keep talking up the 357 Maximum, still holding my breath that Ruger will listen & Lipsey's will make an announcement some day, we can only hope.

I think a 7 or 8 shot BFR would be totally doable. ***** Joe.... I’d stick with a traditional sixshooter. If you saw some of the stuff we shot in the SRM prototypes, you might agree. Reckon a BFR 7-shooter would hold up. You can shoot a .357 Mximum hot enough to grill your fingers, but that’s already been done, and it didn’t bind the cylinder. I took comfort in having plenty meat around the .357 Maximum chamber. David Bradshaw

There is definitely plenty of meat on that cylinder!

If BFR is going to make a 357 Maximum, why not just make a whole line of super mags?

I'm still betting that if it happens it will be Ruger that does it, and Lipsey's will front the money, my guess.

maybe we could start asking ruger and bfr for a revolver in the new 350 legend. i have not looked at the numbers but i bet a max reamer would would work to make it a max pistol.

IIRC, they were testing the 350 legend in their BFR, again, saw it on their social media. Don't know if there was anything else said/shown about that combo though to say if it would work or not.
