Browsing around the forums and GB, I've picked up a light case of Redhawk-itis so I'm looking at my options while rolling pennies.
I'm not a .44 Mag guy but there's something about having a 4-5.5" .44 around even if I'm just running Specials through it. The other model that catches my eye is the .357 in the same barrel lengths because I already have a couple of .357s so feeding them doesn't add a new caliber.
I've read the 7 shot GPs have had issues related to rim size, are the 8 shot Redhawks good to go?

My 8-shot has no issues whatsoever with the rims. Plenty of room. I think you will enjoy it if you get it.

Thanks, that's good to hear.
I handled one of the snubby models yesterday (2.75"?) and I didn't care for the grip. Maybe I'm so used to the GP style grip and double stack semi-autos but it just felt...weird.
It's not off the table, but maybe swapping to the rubber grip used on the .44s and .45s would feel better in my hand.

Bill Ruger copied the M-29 grip frame for his Redhawk, albeit with the hump a bit higher. The .44 Mag worked fine for my hand from the original 7-1/2” Redhawk. The Redhawk 5-1/2” barrel gave the base of my thumb a rude awakening. Painfully rude. A .357 shouldn’t bother at all. The GRIP is the most personal part of a handgun at the moment of fire: when it works for you, you sing; when it doesn’t work for you, you cough. For me, there has never been a perfect grip for the Redhawk. The factory stock, which shoots cannon shells so well on the 7-1/2”, commits hand murder on the 5-1/2”. Rubber grips----and none are perfect----enable me to utilize the ready-to-party, tough-as-nails Redhawk.
Again, a .357 Mag Redhawk loaded with Rocks & Dynamite shouldn’t be a problem. Yet it is your hand, not mine, you ask about, and the answer is in your hand. David Bradshaw
