I'm thinking about a new .22 and these have caught my eye at a local place: Basically a 10/22 knock off from T/C, uses 10/22 parts and is closer to what I'd like in a .22 for less than the cost of a similarly equipped 10/22. What I haven't seen in my quick google search are end user reviews or feedback from retailers (no returns from customers, lots of returns, etc). Has anyone here fooled around with one?

I have two of them, and plan to get one of the stainless heavy barrel guns when they become available. Fantastic little rifles, and a real bargain if you like the configuration.
The only thing I don’t like is the magazine, so I use 10/22 mags.
I have had the trigger on one reworked by Brimstone and will probably send them the other one. 10/22 trigger groups will work, as will the 10/22 magazines. But either one negates the bolt hold open feature. I also picked up an extra T/C R22 stock and put it on a. 10/22.

Anybody know how they were able to copy the 10/22 and avoid lawyers?

Anybody know how they were able to copy the 10/22 and avoid lawyers? The patents on the 10/22 have expired.

Anybody know how they were able to copy the 10/22 and avoid lawyers? Any number of companies offer 10/22 clone receivers and/or rifles these days - along with bolts, triggers, etc. Brownells even has one.

Fantastic little rifles, and a real bargain if you like the configuration. I haven't been back to the shop yet to look and I haven't found a good picture yet, is the front sight screwed on or dovetailed? One shop has a couple of these brand new in the $350 range and a shop down the road has a tweaked 10/22 on consignment with Tech-Sights, Magpul stock and maybe some other upgrades for $50-75 more. I like the Tech Sights but I don't know if they can be used on the TC.

They screw onto the scope base holes on the 10/22 receiver. WIth the integral rail on the TCR they won't work. I'll have to go look at the front sight, can't remember.

Thanks and no problem! I'm backpedaling a little on what I'm looking for in my next .22 rifle. The consignment rifle I was considering was already sold so I started playing with the idea of a full build using the Brownells receiver as a staring point and quickly priced myself right back into reality. I think I'll give these another look and see what kind of bag friendly stocks I can find for it.

They are a PITA to deal with on an FFL exchange. I eventually got it replaced, the replacement was worse than the first one. I threw it in the trash and swore off that nonsense.

Yikes! Maybe that's why they had barreled actions on sale for $140 when I was looking this weekend...

I have several of the Brownells version of the 10-22 and have not had any problems with them... In fact, I'm really quite impressed with their quality, and I'm known among my friends to be "very picky" (I think they use the term "anal", but I'm really sure that they just mean "picky"...)
