What parts are changed when an old model is sent back to Ruger? Hammer, trigger, base pin, pawl, bolt? I know the lockwork can be changed back if you have the parts but what is a good used set of original three screw parts worth? $100? Are they all the same or is there variation based on caliber in the Blackhawk models (.357, .41, .45)? How hard are they to find? I see them pop up from time to time for sale.
Yes, I’m full of questions today. Please school me.

357 hammer is 1/8 shorter than 30cal,41,44,45. 357 replacement parts $75-$100avg, sbh $150-$175avg I haven’t seen any of the others sold in awhile. Hope that helps

Hey bushog!!
Remember, if my wife asks, I just traded the take-off old model parts(and a little cash) for a no dash S & W model 63.
Thanks again,
John

Correct OM parts kits seem to go up & down a bit. The Single-Six parts kits go for an average of about $70 a set. Blackhawk kits average around $125. And as noted,, there ARE differences in some hammers, base pins, & triggers. OM Flattops original parts command a bit more. Super Blackhawk kits, about $175-$200,, as many folks want the wide spur hammer & the wider trigger. Here is a pic of different hammers.

I take it the smallest right to left is Single Six, then .357, then .30/.41/.44/.45 Blackhawk and then SBH?

That picture came from our friend,, "Flatgate" many years ago. I seem to recall he said the far left hammer was an Old Army. I'm thinking that both the Old Army & the Hawkeye used the same hammer. I'll have to double check things a little.

I'll have to double check things a little. Picture credits go to Weaslemeatgravy. The Hawkeye Hammer has the funny little notch to hold the hammer back from the rotating assembly, no cylinder latch plunger. The Old Army Hammer has the same cylinder latch plunger and the same notch cuts as the rest of the old model hammers. Left to right; Hawkeye Large frame Blackhawk Small frame Blackhawk Single Six Super Single Six, just a tad lower to allow for the adjustable sight. Bearcat Edit to add: Cylinder Latch Plunger is properly referred as Hammer Plunger,,, which engages/operates the cylinder latch.

I stand corrected,, and my apologies to Bob, (wmg.) I've had this picture a long time. Maybe Carl sent it to me,, heck I don't recall.
And yes,,, that is a Hawkeye hammer. I dug out my spare parts, and they are different, as well as they both have a different part number in the manuals.
Maybe I need to dig out my spare hammers & make a more detailed picture & up to date for this, with info under each one,,,,! Hmmm!!!!
