I am the proud new owner of an Alaskan .480 which was gone over by Bowen’s team and has received a bunch of upgrades. I am working out some reloads for it and wondered about those big 400+ grain WFN hardcasts I’m so fond of in my other standard sized .480’s and if they will stabilize in this “little” six shooter and its stubby barrel. Anyone here have any experience shooting the heavy bullets out of the Alaskans? I may drop down to 300-350ish grain bulllets as needed.
Thanks!
-John

My gun is very accurate with the 410 WFN CP's. I only shoot out to 30 yards though. Extraction is a problem with mine over 900 fps. What upgrades did you get on yours from Bowen? Have you had any extraction issues?

Thanks firedude- didn't get a chance to shoot the gun yet so unsure of any extraction issues. Hoping not! The gun has these Bowen packages: -NO. RD01‘STANDARD ISSUE’ The most basic modifications necessary to reliable performance. Includes: · trigger/action tune · provide/install heavy-duty, extra-pressure mainspring; if necessary · provide/install Rough Country adjustable rear sight · extra-length firing pin installation (blue guns reblued) · provide/ install BCA factory style front sight: crisp, sharp matte finish part for better sight picture; choice of factory-style ramp, Baughman ramp or Patridge blade shape; choice of stock or extra height (plus .040 for factory calibers) for heavy bullets. -NO. RD01 ‘STANDARD ISSUE’ NO. 2 For the 4-inch Standard and Super Redhawk Alaskan models. Contains all the modifications in the RD01 package but adds a Weigand Combat DX base and a serrated ramp blade. A wide variety of DX and custom sight blades are available at extra cost; please inquire. Original sight pin holes are plugged for best appearance. Looks identical to this (even just double-checked the serial number to see if it was the actual gun pictured!)
