Mine is rougher on the outside than it looks but the action is silky smooth....

How 'bout a 27-5 that I had Melonited (now it looks like a 28...except it has the checkered top strap...and numbered chambers....and Bearhug gripstockhandlepanels)... I hope it's not too far of a stretch to throw this in, after all, the Model 28 was the utilitarian 27 that most Law Enforcement Agencies could afford. All the best, Stump

Surprised to see Axehandle hasn't put one up on here, I don't know that he has one, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least

My first ever handgun was a Model 28, I was and remain a fool for trading it off!!

Not as big a fool as me for passing on one for 250 when I lived in Ohio, it was pretty minty other than the Pachmyer grips that were on it, shoulld have traded off a couple of those beat up pump shotguns for it (pump shotguns of the really cheeap variety were really popular where I lived among the "street thug"crowd)

It was almost impossible to find something off the shelf that was a better buy for the buck than a Highway Patrollman with a 6 inch barrel. It was my second center fire handgun in 1971...and I had a bunch of them over the years.
They were great base guns for conversion to 44 Special when you couldn't even look at a model 29. When I got burglarized in 1978, I lost four 357 HPs and four more converted to 44 Special. I had a 5 inch model 27 that was pretty nice, but my current 357 Smiths are a pair of 5.5 inch 627s from "the gun of the week period" of the late 80s. Big heavy cannons, but I'd be happier with a model 28 with a 6 inch barrel.
Thanks for reminding me of some great guns and some good years.
