FYI: Lipseys is having Ruger do a short run of Hawkeye Africans in 9.3x62 for 2019. Very light 24” barrels, open sights, barrel band sling eye, Mauser Type A style forearm with black tip, blue bolt/bolt handle. Very classy! www.lipseys.com/itemdetail.aspx?itemno=RUHM77RSB9.3X62

I bought the 2017 rifle in 275 Rigby. The 2018 was in 6.5x55, but I passed.
These are extremely fine rifles..

I want one badly. Will have to wait due to the .32-20 buying spree🤪 This is a limited run of just a couple hundred guns. While this year’s 6.5x55 version hasn’t proven to be so wildly popular, the 275 Rigby version from two years ago sold out in just few days, and folks have been reselling them for up to like $1800 to $2000. I $#!+ you not!, so you might want to put your 32-20 buying spree on hold long enough to scrape the $1200 you’ll need to get one of these when they come out. Otherwise, you will get raked over the coles for one later.

It's a great non-magnum cartridge. I don't see the need for a full 24" barrel, but then I've always liked shorter barrels. Heavy bullet, good diameter, moderate velocity, big wallop on game. What's not to like?

I think the 9.3x62 is the perfect “one gun” to hunt every thing. Even better than the .375 H&H Magnum.

I think the 9.3x62 is the perfect “one gun” to hunt every thing. Even better than the .375 H&H Magnum. I used to think the 338-06 was the perfect one gun... then I ran across the 9.3x62 and changed my mind! Even cast bullet loads would be super sweet.

Very cool! If they did a left hand version I would sell my 375 Ruger African in favor of one.

What do you think one of these would weigh as pictured?

I would guess around 7.25 lbs. Quite light.

They are some of the best balanced guns Ruger has ever made to me. I had some of the 275 Rigby versions and I’ll have a few of these as well when they are finally ready to ship. Probably will be another 60 days or so before they start hitting the market.

Here is my Oberndorf Mauser Type A in 9.3x62, born in 1939:
Here is the new Hawkeye African: Do you happen to notice any similarity? The shadow in my crappy photo is covering the horn forend tip on the Mauser.
