One shouldn't think of it as a replacement for his beloved 452's and 455's. I don't. It's only an adjunct to the others. Thanks for posting this. I’m going to pick up a cz rimfire scout as my son’s first rifle and I’m dickering between 455 and waiting for the 457. Any suggestion/reccomendation which you would choose in that capacity?

Well, since you asked....
if it was a decision for me to make I'd go with the 455 Scout. I bought my 457 primarily because I think it's pretty and I prefer the safety positioning.
A kid doesn't know pretty or not in a rifle and he sure won't have a safety preference yet. And, the 455's are here, now.
Teach him to use a rest. Don't scope it. Learn him to use the sights. Place targets near and start out with them being big, reactive and fun....think balloons, soup cans on a string, milk jugs with colored water (not red) or tethered cats. Use your imagination.
And maybe most importantly, if early in the shooting session his mind wanders and he wants to chase a butterfly or ride his bicycle instead, let him chase and ride.
If YOU find yourself frustrated with that, next session let a trusted, competent friend teach your child and YOU teach his. Consider the same years later when he is learning to drive your truck. For some unknown biologic reason, we are more patient with another man's child than our own.
I wish someone had told me this 35yrs ago.
