I was able to add a used Ruger #1 in 416 Rigby Monday morning. I'd give the gun a solid 98-98% condition. Not surprising since it's not a gun the previous owner (or present owner) has a use for often.
But, I've always wanted to add one to my collection.
This morning I ordered a NECG Peep Sight. I figure for its intended purpose it will serve me well.
There are a few more chamberings I'd like to add when time, money and availability allow. Right now my collection runs from 22 Hornet and 218 Bee on the smaller end to 405 WCF, 416 Rigby and 475 Linebaugh on the bigger end. Truly versatile rifles for retro hunters.

I had one of those and it was a tack driver. And I had a lot of fun shooting it but ended up trading it since I also had a 77 Magnum. Not enough elephants in Maine to justify two Rigbys, or at least that was my reasoning at the time, but one of the few guns I've let go of over the years that I wish I'd kept.

You will like the sight. What front post did you get?

I'm sticking with the factory front sight for now. It's a very fine bead.
Measuring the flip up rear sight, believe the front will work. Guess I will know for sure soon.

I have a 450/400 that I shoot with "modern loads", I giggle every time I shoot it. Assuming I'm shooting it off hand. Shooting it from the bench I make other noises that are less fun. I made sort of an express sight for it. A large NECG fiber optic up front. In the rear I bought the "peep" blade Ruger sells for the Ranch rifle, cut the top 1/3 of the sight off leaving a large "U" rear sight. Not as accurate as the factory Ruger sights would be (I hate Ruger rear rifle sights) but at least I can see them! I had planned to put an XS peep on it but I couldn't come up with a front sight height that would work with it.

I've shot a few boxes of the Speer hot core 350s through my 77 iron sighted at pop cans and clays. Like to get a mold and try some unique at some point when things slow down. That old cordite case and modern steel actions can hold some pressure and the case can be loaded upwards of 2700 but keep them sane. A 400 @ 2350z2400 has been killing stuff DRT for over a 100 years.

Hawk makes some good bullets for thin skinned game. I'll likely load some over 5744 for some 45-70 level loads.

I've got a custom 416 Rigby repeater on an Enfield action... still have to finish up the laminated stock to get it shootable... love those old original ( non Magnum, Magnums )
also have a 375 H&H in a Browning Stainless Stalker, that I consider to be an awesome "dark timber" rifle, with a 1.5 to 6X Burris on it...

Got the NECG PEEP SIGHT in and it fit like a champ. Worked just fine with the factory front.
The sight is extremely strong built. Something I learned to appreciate hunting Africa. Slim and sexy is pleasing to the eye, but I've come to appreciate strong and functionally more. I actually find this the most attractive of my options.
