Yup a bit dark right now as well too I bet.
My cousin went to school in Fairbanks for a year, said the weather was pretty damn cruel. Sun would get to the horizon just barely but no warmth would come from it at all, just enough to tease you. At -62 below a boiling cup of water tossed into the air comes back down as snow, and all of the college students got more than a little stir crazy from being inside too much.
But the summers were nice.

Life Below Zero one of my favorite shows. I would guess that over the years here, have about a month worth of below zero weather experience but I'm talking -5 to at worst -20. Backpacking, hunting and climbing trips give me about a dozen nights out in them, in a tent or snow cave. Stay safe Synd. Favorite long undies ? Just got a set of new gen3 Mil-surp bottoms to replace my 1st gen poly-pro mil-surp that replaced my 1st HH from the late 70's. Remember friends melting theirs into a blue ball in the dryer ! Forgot they are basically plastic.

Just getting the shivers out of my fingers enough to reply, I spent many, many , many nights out in those temps working. Don’t do it any more, and not even sure I could, but when dressed for, it’s doable. Stay safe Snyd, good day to catch up in the loading room.

Live in mid Michigan all my life and worked outside for yrs but never that cold. The coldest was -10 with -35 wind chill and it was brutal. Was driving piling and had to build a Big fire to warm the diesel hammer to get it to fire. Put rags and a glove over the steel throttle handle to help slow your hand from getting cold. Two of use worked 1/2hr on 1/2 off in the crane to get warm!

Our coldest for this round of cold was 42 below for a couple days. Yesterday it got up to 19 below at the warmest. It is supposed to get up to 5 above in a day or 2 . Currently sitting at 18 below . Which feels quite warm compared to the 38 below yesterday at this same time. Hi Ho hi ho.

Spent a few cold winters bringing power houses and oil refineries up out of the ground...... brrrrrrr!!!! Dressed in layers and kept a torch handy and learned to be inventive. Now I do my work in a factory setting and mostly inside 😁
