Well, I had a crazy thing happen to my this evening. I shot a rabbit with my 44 Special and a cast HP thru the chest. The rabbit ran off about 15 yards and was recovered still kickIng. Now get this.... The bullet stopped under the skin on the offside. A cottontail rabbit. Im about to skin it and will post pics of the bullet. I can imagine what happened other than I made a bank shot. I musta held a little low and hit the dirt right before it got to the rabbit. It was a fairly shallow angle that I was shooting. I found a splash kind of mark in the dirt but the bullet stayed in the rabbit. Now that I read that last line.... Of course that’s what happened. How else could it hit the dirt and stay in the rabbit!!! Crazy things happen when shooting killer rabbits!!!

I got my 454 load from fermin. It won’t pass through a rabbit either. I can get two small squirrels but only one rabbit. I’m gonna add a few ounces of bullseye to see if that will help 😂😂

He has so much powder behind his projectile in that 454 it totally disintegrates by time it gets to the muzzle! Shooting that thing will make you think ole Zeus has an issue or two. Come to think of it, I don’t recall seeing Zues ever shoot that thing. I’m smelling me a rat...

Had a factory Winchester ammo loaded with a 260gr Partition stop on the neck bone of a fallow with 40yd shot after going through and inch or two of hide. That bullet was running near 1800fps MV so after 40yds it still had at least 1500fps. Surprised the hell out of me...

That bullet was running near 1800fps MV so after 40yds it still had at least 1500fps. Surprised the hell out of me... The only bullet I have ever recovered from my 454 on an animal was a 260 FA bullet doing 1890 at the muzzle. Shot was about 120 yards on a fallow deer as well. It went through the shoulders and smeared the nose at an angle. All I can figure is that it turned the bullet and maybe caused the flat on the back to hit the hide on offside. It stretched that hide WAY out. You could ball it in your fist. Both sides were bloodshot from front shoulder to hindquarters down each rib cage. It was a strange shot. Every critter is different. Fermin....I already had this gun rebuilt once. I will say that’s the only FA I’ve ever shot to the point it was “loose” by FA standards and it was tightened up and redone when I had it rebarreled. At that point, it probably had between 16-20K rounds of 300 trainers at 1625 down that barrel. Still shot great!!!!
